love ice cream, shiny things, and contemporary art glorious, pretentious, forgettable, goofy, fineit's all here so this book is perfect for me thanks, wina!.
additional features:
the book opens with a very interesting discussion on the shifting role of a curator
you will find this line on one of the paintings: "what beautiful heavy balls i have.
" i kind of hate to take it out of context, but not really,
shiny doesn't do it justice, this book is iridescent and it glows, if you look at your own face as reflected in the cover of this book, you will be pleased to learn what you might look like in a world where ice cream alone provided all necessary nutrients.
Found this book after reading a column about last year's Art Basel, I disagree with the 'coolness' factor, but nonetheless a very good glimpse into the contemporary art realm, lovely shiny book ofcontemporary artists, . yet half of the curators obviously chose artists from their country, people they've befriended, . . whole endeavor seemed extremely localized, or at least antiglobalization, which may be where we're headed, the one page descriptions of an artist's work were also terribly written, . . no one chose to spice them up, incredibly vague statements filled with passive voice, the only exception is the wrong gallery, who chose artists over the age ofor so, and presented their own format with a small informal miniinterview for each artist.
there were also far too many rehashes of the
last whitney biennial, all in all, a sort of bleak collection that reminds me that this cream series is making for fantastic coffee table books and nothing more.
This is by far the least exciting of Phaidon's series ofcontemporary artists, . . but I still would be excited for yet another installment, None of the artists grabbed me, an interesting one we got sent in to the office at work, i haven't yet had a decent chance to sit down with it, but the concept itself is quite interesting.
and the cover is ohso shiny! This is an exhibitioninabook that presentscontemporary artists, selected by ten internationally renowned curators.
Each artist is featured over four pages with a selection of their most interesting work together witha commentary by the curator who selected them, an exhibition history, and a bibliography.
