Thought l had typef enough, suffice to say l cannot think of anything to add, A
Sorry. First book this has happened This book is based on Francis Bryan and his fight with the forces of darkness so quite a different and original idea.
Frankly, any Tudor book that is not based on Anne Boleyn is worth a read, The author has put in extensive research and it shows in the way the book is written, The descriptions of life away from court in Tudor times were brilliantly depicted,

I cannot say the same for the story itself, I never fully understood the plot and the subtleties of the situations, Why does Bryan keep insisting that Wolsey was setting him up How is Bryan involved in the murder There is implication that he is involved, but it is not clear in what way.
It was onlyinto the story that it comes out that he did indeed commit the murder, but I have no idea why.
It was also mentioned too casually as if we were supposed to know it already, I dont understand who Lady Annise is or why she is employed, Why does she go about whining about her fallen times Where has she fallen from Who is Marissa Who is Volund No idea!

The constant and continuous references to the fallen angel were also incomprehensible to me.
I had to look up what a fallen angel was, but I still do not understand its ubiquitous use in this book, I did not understand the ending either, From where did the Earl of Devonshire suddenly spring up In the end, it was simply a plot that went nowhere because I did not understand the motivations of the characters.
The story reads like it is a sequel, but the background is unknown to me, The characters were not introduced properly, and the entire book suffers because of that,

Many of the sentences were not structured properly and sometimes were hard to decipher, There were also plenty of grammatical and punctuation mistakes, Hopefully, these might be corrected next time with the help of a good editor, I consider this essential. I am not going to read the sequel, but I might try the mystery stories of the same author, also set in the Tudor period.

gruesome murder by his rival Cardinal Wolsey.
Francis knows exactly how the girl died, his difficulty is keeping her quietly dead while he tries to discover the source arcane magic that drives the reanimated corpse to seek him out.
As for assistance, theres his servant Bottoph a lecherous, untrustworthy drunkard, while Doctor Agryppa may be a master of the arcane, but his motivation for aid isdoubtful.
This leaves Francis to the mercy and machinations of a drinker of blood and a question of treachery or trust, .
