a big fan of short stories when they're done right, and The Watch exceeded my expectations! Written from Marie's POV, I was intrigued from the start by her thoughts and the drama that surrounded her mother.
The author does a phenomenal job of making you feel like you have traveled back in time as you see the story unfold, down to the smallest details.
Adding a hint of creepiness to the mix just had me hooked!
Marie is ever the proper woman, even when the horrific loss of her mother throws her world into a tailspin.
The way Marie's mother's 'episodes' were handled and the shame that they carried with them, you can't help but feel for Marie as she tries to move on with her life.
Dealing with the pain of her mother's death, the constant worry that the madness was passed on to her, and her fears for her future were all so much for her to have to bear.
When she sees something that makes her question her own sanity, Marie is desperate to prove it's all in her head and get past it, but the doubt is always there.
I loved the ominous sense of mystery surrounding Marie's life, and the ending still gives me chills!!
This was a beautifullywritten story that I thoroughly enjoyed, and I look forward to reading more from this talented author! A SHORT STORY
After her mother's suicide in, socialite Marie Lancater is sent to live with her aunt and uncle on their Rhode Island estate.
Even in mourning she must always remain calm and wellmannered, as her future and marriage prospects would fall to pieces if society believed she was prone to madness like her mother.
And she manages well enough until the strange man begins appearing under her window, This was a terrific short ghost story with a striking ending, I enjoyed it very much and look forward to more stories from this talented writer!
