Fetch Modern Pioneering: More Than 150 Recipes, Projects, And Skills For A Self-Sufficient Life Formulated By Georgia Pellegrini Visible In Copy
a book can be delicious, this is the one I would gobble up, Modern Pioneering by Georgia Pellegrini has more thanrecipes, projects, and skills for a selfsufficient life,
The pictures and layout are gorgeous, The whole book is a pleasure to hold in your hands and a feast for the eyes, Even the pages smell delectable,
What's more is that it's an actual useful guide for newtoyou projects, recipes, and skills, Preserving food, cooking, gardening, household projects, and more, Flipping through the book has left me excited about trying out several of the projects,
I did expect a bit more about the selfsufficient lifestyle, Maybe backyard chickens, using up more of the garden produce, etc, But then again, maybe those topics have been overdone in other books and this guide is true to the fact that the majority of what is within I haven't read/seen in other places.
This is a true gem to add to my "selfsufficient" shelf of books,
The photos, tips and recipes are phenomenal! However, I would have loved a little more explanation in certain parts types of mushrooms how to use the sprouts.
I really enjoyed the herb garden tips especially and look forward to trying out these recipes, I had certain expectations for this book and I'm not sure they were met, This collection of recipes, projects and tips is like holding Pinteresr in your hands, Not a bad thing but a bit overwhelming, Beautiful pictures and recipes that sound amazing, But the author has an advantage over most of us in that she was raised to think this way so eating edible flowers or cooking with dandelion greens is nothing to her.
For me, it would take some getting used to,
However, I found a lot of useful tips in it, For a beginner, it's a good resource, especially for gardening,
I have my doubts about how frugal some of the projects and recipes are, While a lot of the projects sound interesting and fun, many seem to require time and energy that some of us don't have.
So, I'm glad for it as a guide but wouldn't consider it a necessity for everyone at every stage of life.
Modern Pioneering is a colorful and informative book loaded with recipes and all kinds of tips for survival, The Gardening section is perfect for both the beginner and the expert, It tells you what kinds of tools you'll need and how to start your seedlings, There are instructions for making raised beds of all kinds and even how to distress wood, Georgia Pellegrini shows you how to start your garden and how to grow it, and in the Home section, she tells you how to preserve its produce and how to cook up quick and easy recipes.
This section includes lots of neat tips for your pantry, In the Wild section, she shows you what kinds of plants are edible and she even shows you how to make the coolest pocketsizedhour survival kit! The last section is filled with all kinds of tips and tricks for living like a modern pioneer.
Such a fun and interesting book!

”
My husband and I are in the middle off the homebuying process and I am at the computer daily searching for ways I can create in our new home.
Gardening is at the top of my list! I was beyond excited when I received this book not only to review, but have the chance to glean inspiration from it.
The cover is divine and the book is very sturdy, which is great for a book that will probably be used a lot in this house.
Georgia Pellegrini, the author, learned selfsufficiency from her grandmother and her aunt while she grew up on a farm in the state of New York.
She wrote this book to inspire others by showing her tricks of the trade of a homegrown life, It seems like a lot of people I know are headed to a more “natural” life style by growing their own vegetables, herbs, and so much more.
Personally, it is making more sense to me to grow my own produce since my family eats so much of it.
Plus, I am tired of running to the grocery store,
Georgias book, is great for new comers to this newold lifestyle of doingityourself, Herpage book is chalked full with easy recipes from how to plant a basic garden to turning a tree stump into a table.
On almost every page there is gorgeous photographs of Georgias recipes giving a visual of the end product,
My favorite part of Modern Pioneering is the “SelfSufficient Pantry” chapter because I love to cook and I love to eat.
What I enjoyed about her recipes she shared is they arent hard to follow and do not come across as intimidating.
Also, I thought her “Avoiding Waste” section within the chapter was thrifty and creative, Wine Popsicles This girl is SOLD,
Modern Pioneerings title fits Georgias book completely, It is a modern take on the older times, I feel a lot people who bought this book would find a recipe they could use and do themselves,
I cant wait to have this beautiful book along side my other cookbooks when I move into the new house!
Thank you Blogging for Books for the opportunity for review.
Prior to receiving this book, I wasnt familiar with Georgia Pellegrini, so I truly enjoyed reading about her life in the introduction to this book as it proved that she understood through real life practice the pioneering/homesteading lifestyle.
It meant that she wasnt someone who was just throwing out ideas without the practical knowledge to back it up.
In fact, many things that she talks about in the book come from ideas that have been passed down through several generations.
I love that!
Modern Pioneering contains recipes and ideas for a variety of homesteading practices including:
Gardening
Preserving
Living Off the Land
Prepping
Practical as well as Fun Crafts
Life Skills
and more.
The book is broken down intomain sections: the garden, the home, the wild, and the rest, The organization of the book makes it easy to find whatever topic you want to learn about within the book.
The pictures are gorgeous, fullcolor pictures, The style of writing is quite conversational in nature,
Many of the topics covered are for beginners in the homesteading lifestyle, The recipes are basic, but good, I really liked the creative idea of making a keg out of a watermelon, The instructions are easy to follow for the various projects, In many ways, its like a physical version of Pinterest,
While an electronic version is available for this book, I highly recommend getting a physical copy to have on hand.
Its one of those books that is nice to flip through and really use, Its a solid book with heavy weight pages to hold up to use and abuse,
Disclosure: I received this book for free from Blogging for Books for this review, A positive review is not expected nor guaranteed, All opinions are my own, At first glance, it's a nice size book withpages, The book is broken down into four section, the garden, the home, the wild, and the rest, It's filled with easy to read information and nice pictures,
But, I feel like the title is a little misleading, "Modern Pioneering" contains mostly recipes, There's information about gardening and using wild edible plants, But there's not information about raising livestock and little information about canning and yet there's info on how to change a tire and pick a lock.
.
I also have to add that, the recipes listed in the book, though some sound good to try, the majority were.
. . well, a little odd to me i, e. dandelion wine, jalapeno mint jelly no regular mint jelly recipe, jalapenoinfused vodka, rose petal jelly, pea pancakes, and peach whiskey hot sauce to name a few.
I did enjoy this book, and find it interesting, it's just half of it didn't apply to what I consider modern pioneering or things needed for
a selfsufficient life style.
I feel like this book is more of a fun, hipster/hippy version of selfsufficient living,
However, I do think the information it does have is great for beginners, thought it's not the first book I'd recommend.
All in all, I liked it,out of,
I received this book for free from Blogging for Books for this review, A positive review is not expected nor guaranteed, All opinions are my own, I found I was turned off by the title I find the word pioneering loaded with so much that it was hard to get past that.
Overall the book has some interesting projects but felt to scattered to me,
Good instructional pictures and steps, Modern Pioneering by Georgia Pellegrini has more thanrecipes, projects and skills for a selfsufficient life, When I received this book I felt like a little kid eating a chocolate bar, I simply devoured it. The key word to describe this book is found in the title, Modern. If you are looking for a pioneering book that gives pointers on offgrid living or homesteading this is not the book for you, but if you are a individual that would like to become more selfsufficient and are not sure where to begin this book would be a great starting point.
I've been gardening most of my adult life, I grow my own vegetables, I can with a pressure cooker, I grow herbs both for culinary and medicinal purposes and I strive to live a more natural life.
This book was not advanced enough for me, but even so there were some great recipes included that I would like to try.
It is loaded with beautiful pictures and step by step instructions, I personally loved the "handwritten" drawings and writings that gave it a more journal, personal effect, In the back of the book the author included websites where you can find different resources which I thought was a great addition.
The book is divided into sections, The Garden, The Home, The Wild, The Rest and Weekend Warrior Projects, The author encourages people of all walks of life to live a more self sufficient lifestyle, Even if all you have is a windowsill you can grow herbs for the kitchen and Modern Pioneering will help you begin your self sufficient endeavors! I really enjoyed this book.
There is a lot of practical tips about gardening and being selfsufficient, It gave me and my black thumb hope that I might succeed at growing my own food, Georgia Pellegrini's Modern Pioneering is the Ultimate guide in learning how to live off the land, It includes more thanrecipes, projects and skills for a selfsufficient life, I found it extraordinary and full of new ideas for those of us who have made the most of mother nature in our lives.
As a young girl back in the sixties, I recall my Italian grandmother and her friends picking dandelions to use for dinner.
Ms. Pellegrini includes recipes for dandelions as well as other edible flowering plants and they sound quite delicious, There is imperative information on how to make your own planting seeds make tea from scratch where to grow certain plants and a wealth of information too long to list here.
It's a wonderful guide for those who enjoy growing and preserving as well as for those who enjoy creating, I was given the awesome opportunity to read this book for blogging for books in exchange for my thoughts, I consider it a must read and will treasure it for years to come, For more information Modern Pioneering, This one really surprised me: I was expecting the usual useless, bloggery crap, but this book is legitimately worth recommending! It helps that Pellegrini is a trained chef the recipes are truly deliciouslooking and inventive, and range from oldfashioned Hard Apple Cider Doughnuts Simple Sauteed Oyster Mushrooms to newfangled Saffron Pickled Ginger Tomato Water.
There is also a well organized section on gardening that encompasses all kinds of garden spaces fullon backyards, indoor and outdoor containers, and even hanging wall pockets, which is often a blind spot in these kinds of books.
I love the little hints and tips sprinkled throughout the book, and the design is both beautiful and functional, Also, there is actual, truthful, useful wilderness survival herethe basic kind, but still, she doesn't pretend you won't get sick from drinking water strained through a tshirt.
Honestly, this book may be one I end up putting on my bookshelf one day, sitelink
Modern Pioneering, It almost sounds like an oxymoron, But with the rapidly rising costs of living and the increasing reality of chemicallytainted foods, it seems society is beginning to come fullcircle as more and more people wake up to the benefits of a backtothebasics lifestyle.
In this book author Georgia Pellegrini explores the old ways of doing things from good old country knowhow to the DIY grit of times gone by all with a modern flare.
As the author so beautifully puts it “This is your guide for how to do more with less, to delight in your little patch of garden behind your home, and enjoy life in the process.
”
Inside, you will learn:
efficient gardening tips
delicious recipes
tips on avoiding waste such as turning into red wine popsicles, and excess peaches into homemade peach butter
how to live off the land, whether urban, suburban, or rural, through foraging including recipes like dandelion wine, purslane salad, and wild mint and dark chocolate milkshakes
how to take advantage of unused or abandoned plots in your town by making “seed bombs”
tons of really cool survival techniques like how to create a pocketsizedhour survival toolkit in an altoids tin
weekend warrior projects including homemade cheese, yogurt, chai tea, as well as how to season cast iron pans and make a birdhouse out of a gourd.
The book also includes a list of resources in the back with websites for awesome homesteading information and items.
Full of gorgeously stunning food photography and Im allowed to say that, because Im a food blogger and photographer, this book is brimming with delicious recipes, as well as thrifty and wonderfully unexpected ways of upcycling.
Think Boy Scouts meets Rachel Ray meets Martha Stewart, and youll get a feel for the flavor of this book, which literally has something for everyone.
A fantastic book for anyone looking to live off the land, whether in a big way or just by making a small garden plot in the back yard.
Highly recommended!
