on The Dancing Master

Próximamente reseña en sitelink blogspot. com As someone who thoroughly enjoys "old time" dances, this book looked quite intriguing to me, Plus, the cover is SO pretty! lt

What I Liked: This book was a very interesting, fun read, The two main characters were completely opposite of each other, which made for some fun dynamics, I will be honest, Julia got on my last nerve, I get it, her mother is strict and controlling, but Julia lived a privileged life with her every want and desire was fulfilled.
Within reason. And to read of Julia's disrespect of her mother grated on my nerves, I really liked Julia's best friend, though, I do give credit to the author, because I believe it was the intention of sitelinkJulie Klassen to make you grow to like Julia better when you see there is more to her than meets the eye.

I really liked Alec Valcourt, He is probably one of my favorite male protagonists in any book I've read recently, He is so chivalrous and gentlemanly, He's not perfect, but he seeks to live to the highest standard, How he desired to protect his mother and sister from the shame of his father's actions was very courageous and selfless,

The setting of this book was very interesting and all the mystery of the past was intriguing and kept my attention.
All the dancing was so fun to read of, especially since I love old time dancing and the author definitely seemed to do her research on this book.
I thoroughly enjoyed her hard work in putting together this story, She weaved it very well,

What I Didn't Like: There seemed to be quite a bit of "noticing" being done by Julia towards Alec and Alec towards Julia and it came to be a bit too much.
Otherwise, this book was quite enjoyable,

I give this bookout offor a very enjoyable story,
Finding himself the man of the family, London dancing master Alec Valcourt moves his mother and sister to remote Devonshire, hoping to start over.
But he is stunned to learn the village matriarch has prohibited all dancing, for reasons buried deep in her past,

Alec finds an unlikely ally in the matriarch's daughter, Though he's initially wary of Julia Midwinter's reckless flirtation, he comes to realize her bold exterior disguises a vulnerable souland hidden sorrows of her own.

Julia is quickly attracted to the handsome dancing mastera man her mother would never approve ofbut she cannot imagine why Mr.
Valcourt would leave London, or why he evades questions about his past, With Alec's help, can Julia uncover old secrets and restore life to her somber village, . . and to her mother's tattered heart

Filled with mystery and romance, The Dancing Master brings to life the intriguing profession of those who taught essential social graces for ladies and gentlemen hoping to make a "good match" in Regency England.

Discussion questions included, I told a friend, once, that I will often give a bookif I would love to see it made into a movie a good movie that followed the book perfectly.
I know, that never happens, but, this was one of those books: I loved it because it was unique, I mean, how many books have you read about dancing masters I also enjoyed how it wasn't so much a romance story between the hero and heroine, it was about a mother and child finding grace and respect for one another and a town being redeemed, learning to move on and celebrate life once again.
I can't say enough, either, for how much I applaud Julie Klassen for her ability to write the perfect epilogue, Julie Midwinter has lived a very difficult life, And it is not for want of money, Quite the contrary. She has had a life of relative ease, But what she lacks is love, With a cold father and an a mother who is nearly as forbidding Julie hopes to one day be free of the village she has grown up in, to see the world and experience another life entirely.
But for now it looks like she is stuck in a dreary and danceless place, Alec Valcourt is a dancing master so when he comes to live in a little town in Devonshire he is flabbergasted to learn dancing is a major nono.
Out of work he takes a job as clerk for Lady Amelia, the lady responsible for the "outlawing" of dancing in the area.
Working for the estate puts Alec in regular contact with Julie, Lady Amelia's daughter, Together the pair seek to bring life back into the depressing Midwinter home and break the rules and constraints local society has placed on the villagers.

Julie Klassen rarely disappoints, Her books always feature unforgettable characters one is willing to follow off the edge of a cliff just to see what their next move will be.
Even the villains are always of intense fascination and are not wholly evil but allow for a little good to shine through.
So where am I going with all of this I had high hopes for The Dancing Master as I do for each book Ms.
Klassen releases. Unfortunately those hopes were dashed, From the opening to about midway the story dragged, The mystery surrounding Lady Amelia's reasons for outlawing dancing grew monotonous after so long, Each time someone would go to finally unveil it an interruption in the form of a visitor or some such thing would delay it.
This happened more times than I would care to remember,

Then there are the characters, Both Julie and Alec came across as insipid ninnies, Selfish Julie spends quite a bit of time fighting with a mother she thinks does not love her and flirts with every man she comes across.
She rarely takes responsibility for her actions but likes to blame a lot of her shortcomings on what she views as a severe mother.
It is my opinion that the only character with half a brain was Lady Amelia although she did have her faults don't we all.
Alec has an aversion

to manual labor because he is a fop who shudders to think he'll have to get dirty to help support his mother and sister after his father abandons the family.
I would think that as a newcomer and with an unwanted profession like his he would take whatever job he could get.
And so I ask you what kind of hero and heroine is that to look up to This of course was my own opinion.
I still believe that this is a book worth reading as we eventually get to the part of the story that makes Ms.
Klassen such a wellloved author, So go for it the world is your oyster! Read and enjoy,
