Read After Author's kind request for an honest review!
To tell you the truth I could not understand from the very first moment how the title connected with the story.
But after reading the book I realized that the title is indeed a very suitable one,
The story basically follows Adi and Radha, when they were really young, After an incident when Radha saved Adi's life, the two youngsters became inseparable,
"But my heart knows it would be happiest when I would meet him, when I would touch him, It is when my soul and my body are in perfect unison, "
After that day they never stopped being apart from each other even when they were, But they always remained in each other's hearts,
"'Are you telling me someone else has kissed you'
'what if I Am'
'can I have his name and address maybe someone needs to die soon' "
Adi is a romantic.
Radha is a realist,
They couldn't have been any more different but that didn't stop them from becoming each other's guardian angels,
For some reason it was very difficult for them to express their appreciation and love for each other,
A unique and sometimes unusual bond keeps them together,
"I keep thinking about what Adi means to me and keep wondering about what I mean to him, What should I call this relationship And should it be called something"
Although sometimes it feels like they are together and at the same time they aren't.
"Nicole said with a wistful smile, 'I have seen guys talking about a woman many times but nothing like the way you do about her, Your entire face, no, not just your face, but your entire
being alters when you talk about her, "
But since the day they first met , they always protect and love each other no matter what, like they are exactly that, . . guardian angels.
Even if it wasn't that expected from the very beginning they actually seemed to fight a lot and most of the time without a reason,
"I know there is no way we can be apart as there is something that binds us, "
Overall, the story was very beautiful and heartbreaking at times and even if sometimes I could not understand why they made certain decision, why they were so very stubborn, I could still feel their heart ache, their true feelings and how they were meant to stay in each other's life.
Strong Characters, beautiful story!
"I like your everything" Adi
Enjoy!
By Rohit Gore, Grade: A
The day I came to know that Rohit Gore, the amazing author of the amazing book Circle of Three, is coming out with another book in July, I was more than excited.
Circle of Three was one of those rare gems in Indian market that deserved all the praise and applause it was getting, I was sure The Guardian Angels would be awesome, I was right.
Our protagonists, Aditya and Radha are the opposite of each other, Aditya Mehta is the son of one of the countrys richest man, and Radha is a small town girl the child of a man who has always fought for the rights of the mango people.
Radhas wit and dare devilry is to die for, Adityas timidity is pathetic. The first time they meet is in the Bullyzone when Adi could see his death racing towards him at a torrential pace, in a puddle of muddy water, Radha, whom he has never seen before, comes as his saviour, His Guardian Angel! And the rest, as they say, is history,
The cover of the book is something that I cannot shut up about, The craftiness, the subtlety, the elegance all these adjectives are in sync with the writing,
Another strong point is the character formation which is outstanding as well, You have Radha and Aditya with whom you can completely relate to, There is nothing about them that is unrealistic, In the little Aditya, I many a times saw traces of Aryan Khosla, one of our characters from Circle of Three, And I loved him. Another thing in TGA which is reminiscent of COT are the journals, Most of Radhas story is epistolary in the form of her journal, And it isnt the boring journal that youd be tired of reading and would be skipping lines of, It, as Radha says, reads more like a novel, With all of those wonderful dialogues and descriptions, The interesting thing about it is that you dont feel like jumping in and out of terrains when you separately read of Radhas POV, Adityas POV or Vedants POV.
The glide has been managed wonderfully by the author and it is worth an applause,
From the blurb, you might think it is just another boymeetsgirlandsavesher story, Thats not true. The plot has so many more facets to it, The essence isnt easy to catch it isnt something you can just queue in the long, unending list of contemporary romances, It needs a mature head to capture the real beauty, The thoughts were wonderful. No, not the quotes at the start of different parts, but within the text, So many times I wished to put up a Facebook status with a quote from The Guardian Angels and write Rohit Gore next to it,
The only thing that bugged me a little was the Sudha Bapat thing, I think it was taken a bit too far, If the story dragged, it was just because of that aspect,
The books from Rohit Gore are a feather in the cap of Grapevine, even if they sell a million copies written by their other bigshot authors, The jewel of their crown has to be Rohit Gore, Hes proved to us that what helps a book sell isnt always sex and money, It is good and solid writing that sells and is liked by the people,
If its still not clear, I wish to emphasize how much I loved this book, and how much you WILL love this book, Buy it today.
Originally reviewed at Vaultofbooks, com, a closeknit community of fanatical readers, We are looking for perceptive readers who can write well, and we are eager to provide lots of free books in exchange for reviews, Shoot us a mail at contactvaultofbooks, com If you are a lover of a dramatic love story, here you go, Rohit Gore brings to you the story of Aditya Mehta and Radhika Deodhar, Adi or Aditya is the poor child of a rich man and Radhika the daughter of a union leader, The story spins through two decades, Gore credibly takes the reader through some predictable and some unpredictable plots, but not through one dull moment,
Adi is the silent and somber one and Radika the outspoken firebrand idealist, You can very well smell the chemistry between them from the word go, but like most of us they do get confused and move towards different directions, Adi is almost the Hindi film hero born to wealth and a cricketer too who moves abroad to pursue higher education, Radhika is a middle class girl staying in the country committed to the causes she believes in, However they are each others guardian angel, being there for each other in moments of crisis, That is also from where the book derives its name,
Gore has carefully weaved a great chemistry between the two protagonists, The fiery banter, the unspoken jealousy and hidden tenderness will not only engross you but make you smile thinking of someone you once knew or know, However hell breaks loose when it is discovered that Radhika is suffering from a fatal illness which also claimed her father, You have to read the book to find the rest,
Go for this, if you want to read a romantic tale, Gore definitely has great sparks in his writing but somehow I feel he pursued the safe way of telling the story, I was expecting a little more from the writer.
Gore knows his job well, he does write well and I am sure in his next book there would be something more, that I can take back home,
The blurb of The Guardian Angels by Rohit Gore hints at a paranormal theme of soulmates who are destined to protect each other, Though the psychic nature of the connection between the two main protagonists is never openly described, it comes through as part of the story, through each of the four parts of the book.
The Guardian Angels is the story of Aditya Mehta and Radha Deodhar, and narrates the events that bind their lives together from their teenage years to their thirties.
In what seems to be a tribute to the classic bestseller Love Story, Adi and Radha are portrayed as opposite poles,
the shy rich boy and the spunky middle class girl, two distinct individuals who could not be different from each other in their backgrounds, temperament and aspirations.
Yet the bonds connecting them are beyond their close and often volatile friendship, mutual attraction and even love,
Though they choose to stay apart from each other, the fateful nature of their relationship causes them to save the other, which they do several times in the course of the book going beyond the protocols of friendship and romantic love to save the other literally, or by
supporting the other emotionally.
The side characters are well sketched out and more than mere props in the background, and as the story develops, they help to accentuate the strange nature of the lead pair's involvement with each other.
Adi's attachment to his classmate Nicole which is more than a casual attraction and Radha's devoted involvement with the activist group led by her hero Sudha Bapat have been portrayed well, showing how the two lovers are comfortable existing as they say 'in parallel universes' even when they yearn for each other, much like the celebrated lovers Amit and Labanya in Tagore's Shesher Kabita.
I especially liked how the character of Sudha Bapat has been portrayed, how she metamorphoses from a staunch idealist to a vacuous celebrity activist and the honesty with which she describes the need and the reason behind her change.
At its core, The Guardian Angels is an earnest love story with the theme of lovers as mutual saviours giving it a unique twist, The way the narration pans a cinematic eye through the lives of Adi and Radha, it is easy to imagine that the action packed scenes, the variety of the
background settings and the emotional dialogue would make it a good movie.
