Im not one to kneel before the shrine of Oprah , nor have I really watched her very much throughout the years.
but I do find her to be genuine and mostly filled with good advice, though I think her poor decisions like her associations with Dr.
Phil, “Dr. ” Oz, and Tyler Perry prove that she is human and makes mistakes like the rest of us, No, not even the great Oprah can be as flawless as Beyoncé who, as we all know, just woke up like that,
Throughout this book she is quite candid about her struggles with weight loss, selfacceptance and a sitelinkpaining vajayjay, It is broken up into little vignettes of her accumulated wisdom throughout the years and placed into the following categories:
JOY
REILIENCE
CONNECTION
GRATITUDE
POSSIBILITY
AWE
CLAIRTY
and POWER
Although her book is filled with her "aha moments" that could easily be snarkily referred to as "duh moments", even a cynic like me can sense that she's writing from an authentic place of experience and knowledge.
One of the best quotes in this book is:
And as anyone who knows anything about the big O is that she is all about the books.
She has both a famed book club, and even a sitelinkDeclaration of Reader Independence: Not finish a book, whether you've read to page,, or, But if it's Ulysses, you get points just for getting past page,
. See the movie firstespecially if you've heard the book is kind of lousy the movie just has to be better,
. Read two books at onceand occasionally get the plots mixed up,
. Reread a childhood favorite. But be forewarned: Charlotte still dies,
. Judge a book by its cover, Or its title. We defy you, for example, not to pick up Mary Roach's Bonk, which, um, scores on both counts,
. Wish that Cormac McCarthy would use a little punctuation now and then,
. Be miffed if your friend doesn't like a book you recommend, On the other hand, you have our permission to be miffed if she gets miffed when you don't like the one she recommends to you.
. sitelinkIgnore memoirs by people who have barely cracked theirs,
. Declare yourself unmoved by the existential struggles of vampires, zombies even those in league with Jane Austen, talking dogs, or what we worry is the next trend: scarysmart monkeys.
. Believe that books can be magic carpets to enchanted lands, even while realizing that they're inanimate objects made of ink and paper, Unless they're ebooks. And it's okay to love those, too,
I give this bookout ofbecause I felt like this could have been expanded better, but I did enjoy most of what I did read.
Beautiful amp inspiring.
"What I know for sure is that there is no strength without challenge, adversity, resistance, and often pain",
"Who could I have become if I had finally done the things I always wanted to do",
"The gift of deciding to face your mortality without turning away or flinching is the gift of recognizing that because you will die, you must live now".
What I Know For Sure is like springcleaning for the soul, I listened to the audio version of this book it was an extra treat to hear Oprah read it, I found myself bookmarking so many of her valuable life lessons and will likely listen to it again, I love Oprah. That's coming from a person who isn't dazzled by celebrities, I grew up watching her talk show, and I'm not ashamed of admitting that I learned a lot from her, I love her positive outlook on life, her strength and her determination, It's summed up really nicely in this book
My highest achievement: never shutting down my heart, Even in my darkest momentsthrough sexual abuse, a pregnancy at, lies and betrayalsI remained faithful, hopeful, and willing to see the best in people, regardless of whether they were showing me their worst.
I continued to believe that no matter how hard the climb, there is always a way to let in a sliver of light to illuminate the path forward.
This book is a collection ofyears worth of monthly columns in O magazine,
They are the things she knows for sure to be true in life,
Ask yourself what you know for sure and what youll find along the way will be fantastic, because what youll find will be yourself.
And although I don't agree with everything she says, it was still a very insightful read,
One of my favorite lines, is when she describes why she loves reading
I love to live in another person's thoughts.
I marvel at the bonds I feel with people who come alive on the page, regardless of how different their circumstances might be from mine
And at times you feel like she totally gets you
Is there anything I love more than a good meal Not much.
I read in one of the reviews that all of this has been said before, That is true, but it seems that we are so caught up in our daily lives, that we keep losing sight of what's really important in life, so we need a constant reminder.
Don't get me wrong, having a job IS really important, but so is stopping once in a while and looking around you so you won't miss the tiny "miracles" we look over every day.
I love how this book is written, in short chapters, in a conventional but powerful language, I would put in some other quotes, but to be honest the whole book is one big giant quote,
If you like Oprah, read it, If you need some positive reinforcement in your life read it, If you are exactly where you want to be in life read it too,
Even if you don't like or agree with everything she does or thinks, you'll still be touched,
ReRead: January,
When I say I reread this book every year Believe me, I absolutely love going back to Aunty Oprah's book for advice, I feel like every time I read this book something else jumps out at me that I can use for the entire year.
I finally got this book in hardcopy so I can refer to it always, I highly recommend you read this book,
ReRead: January,
"What I know For Sure" is my comfort book, Whenever I feel like the world is spinning out of control I pick up this book and go to the solid advice of Oprah.
Honestly, this book speaks to my soul which is why it is on my list of rereads, Also, it is a great book to read at the start of the year,
It goes without saying, this is a must read,
ReRead: January,
Honestly, this books gets me every time, It offers sound, solid, well thought out advice that you can use at any stage of your life, It is a great reminder and help for the coming year and I will be putting a lot of these things into practice.
Because, I want to be able to knowthings for sure this year,
You ever read one of those books at a time in your life when you really needed to be reading those words When everything in the book speaks to your being When you are moved to tears because this book actually gets your life and what you are going through When this book offers the key to where you want to be and how you will get there.
. . That is how I felt while reading this book,
I felt like my entire world opened up while reading this book, While nothing "new" was really said, everything written resonated with me, But this all has to do with the place I am in my life and how I needed these words, So yes, thanks Oprah for being there when I really needed you, when it really counts,
I am going to go on a branch and say, this is a must read! It is the Alchemist, Four Agreements and A New Earth all rolled into one.
This book is the kick in the ass that you need, Well, if you are an Oprah fan, you will love this! I would highly recommend buying this as an audiobook rather than the hardcover or paperback because there's something about Oprah's voice that makes everything still and makes the person listening truly pay attention and really get it.

It's one thing to see Oprah's words on the page but hearing it from her mouth takes her words to the next level.
It's difficult to explain but her voice means so much and it works so well and makes so much sense that she would be the one to narrate her own book.
"When you can see obstacles for what they are, you never lose faith in the path it takes to get you where you want to go because this I know for sure.
. . who you're meant to be evolves from where you are right now so learning to appreciate your lessons, mistakes, and setbacks as stepping stones to the future is a clear sign you are moving in the right direction.
" Oprah
As for the book itself It's great, It's everything you're expecting. It's confirmation and inspiration for so many, Oprah talks about love and joy and relishing in the moment rather than consuming all that's around us simply because it's there, She talks about living fully and becoming the person you are intended to be, She talks about choices and your deepest intentions, About having the courage to seek out your dreams, About value and being valued, Hearing and being heard. Saying yes. Working hard. Surrendering. Conquering fear. Gratitude. The transformation of consciousness.
"While I was waiting on God, God was waiting on me, He was waiting on me to make a decision to either pursue the life that was meant for me or be stifled by the one I was living.
" Oprah
There's not a whole lot to review here, . . people who follow Oprah know what they're getting, know what to expect and this is no exception, This is an expansion of the goodness that is, The goodness that we are and can be and it's a great addition to anyone's book collection, There's something here for everyone to appreciate, to learn from, to be encouraged to do in their life, As Oprah shares stories about some of the lessons she's learned over time, her "Aha" moments, it's clear that we are so much bigger than ourselves and once we can truly grasp that, there is so much we can achieve for ourselves and for others.
This is a wonderful book about being the best person we can be without being preachy or self help like, It just is. As the leaves fall in this new season, let the rest fall away from you and let this book which is such an encouragement, be almost like an anchor to change and growth and progression.
After all, isn't that why we're all interested in picking up this book,
