Monster wants to have a big pirate party for his birthday with all his monster pals, When they can't come boy takes him to pirateland, Will Monster have a good birthday
I was not taken with the picture style, it was so cartoon like that I just couldn't appreciate the art.
Some of the frames were cute, like the bumper cars and the roller coaster, Then there was the series of frames about one of the rides that I couldn't even tell what was happening, . . Not appealing. The story being about things not working out as expected did not fly with me either, The monster still got his party with all his friends, There was no disappointment involved, Kids will have to deal with REAL disappointment in their lives and this just deceives them,
My inclination is to give this book astar but my nephew whom I read picture books with seemed to enjoy the book.
There wasn't much to talk about but he enjoyed the rides at the amusement park and likes that there was a surprise party at the end.
I don't think he felt either way about the art which saddens me, He did draw the roller coaster scene,
BOTTOM LINE: A monster that can be left in the closet,

Really cute storytime book for kindergarten and up, Czajak's monster books are so much fun, Rhyming text and great illustrations these are a must read at storytime and a must add to the collection at school, In this particular book, Monster wants to have a birthday party but when none of his friends can come, he thinks it will be a bust.
But a trip to Pirateland makes the gloomy monster happy again, Another great addition to the series The pictures of this books are drawn to great extent, They are colorful and very vibrant just the needed touch that will engage students to the context of the book, There is also one picture in particularly that that was painted in gray scale, which signified a flashback, This was brilliant. I have never imagined that the same kind of concept that happens in film can cocross to within books, The picture in that page in particular really extended the text, In addition, this book is just one of those silly books that student will love to read, especially during Halloween time, Read at Circle Story Time
Theme: Mythical amp Magical Creatures Rhyming text, a Monster and his human friend, a day at a pirate themed amusement park to cheer Monster up that no one can celebrate his birthday.
For preschool/K wouldn't use with my middle schoolers, Was a bit confused by some switching tenses also, I can't get past the obviousness of the digital illustrations,
Sorry. I just love the illustrations in this series, so bright and vibrant, The rhyming cadence is always right on the money, Another winner.
