book! Challenging and lays out what lies we believe as Christian women and what truths to combat them with!stars! I loved this book, I listened to it on audible and I enjoyed it so much Ive ordered the hard copy so I can easily reread the text, Lots of practical ideas as well as examining some common lies/ toxic thoughts we believe and the truth about God that combats them, Even if you dont personally suffer from some of the issues in the book, I can guarantee you know a woman who does and this is a great resource to understanding and compassion for other women in our lives.
Thanks Jerusha Clark for a great book, Rather like reading apage sermon, and mildly contradictory at times, But the message is fair if one is in the market for such advice, I listened to this audiobook while cleaning and I'll be honest with you, I didn't hear every word, I zoned out sometimes. Part of this is because I was doing tasks, but the other reason is because the author read it and while her writing is clear and powerful, I don't think it is her calling to read her own books.
But a lot of authors don't like how their books "sound" when read by others, They feel the vibe changes, or it's open to misinterpretation because it isn't being read right, Maybe some authors simply don't want to pay someone else to read their book and hope to save money, Regardless of her reasons, which I can't claim to know, I can only say that I think my attention would have been held better by another reader.
That said, I think the book was pretty good, I've read others criticism that the author is simply repeating things that they've read in other books and that they didn't learn much from the book or didn't learn anything "new.
" I do have a few books waiting to be read on my shelf that seems to be about the same subject matter, but I don't mind hearing the same message more than once.
Sometimes a refresher is exactly what we need, The topics and advice was spot on and in certain matters very timely for me, I would certainly read more of Jerusha Clark's books, If you're looking for a book that helps you separate out dangerous lies we tell ourselves about women's relationships with food, each other, our body image, our time, etc.
then this book will help you navigate through the
lies our minds sometimes believes, One of the best books I've read,
Every woman should read it!! "Every Thought Captive" is an excellent book for women who have selfworth issues, who have trouble with worry/anxiety, forgiveness, envy, lust, eating habits or body issues, depression, those who crave acceptance from others, and those who get trapped into extreme business or fall into apathy.
The author covers problems, some common to everyone, but from a distinctly female perspective,
She shared stories of women who struggle with or have struggled with these issues, She then identified the root of the problem and shed the light of Biblical truth on the various lies women may believe who have this problem, Not every problemor every lie listed under each problemwill apply to every woman, She deliberately gave a wide list to try to help the reader recognize if they have the problem and to apply the truth that specifically addresses the lie they believe.
The author was never condemning in tonemany of these problems were lies she believed and the rest were lies her close friends have struggled with,
I really liked how she focused on using the truths from the Bible, replacing the lies believed with the truth that frees, If you think you or, in the case of men, your wife or daughter may have a problem with one of the issues listed above, especially body issues "I hate my body", then I'd highly recommend this excellent, easy to understand book.
I received this book as a review copy from NavPress, This is about the lies that women believe and what the truth is, It tells about what God really thinks of us and how to get our thoughts more focused on him and on our assurance of salvation and freedom than on the negative thoughts that satan tries to bind us with.
like so many books for christian women, . . this book was difficult to drag myself through, : Why are Christian women so pathetic, I seriously do not believe that is the attitude God designed us to suffer as if it is a brand of exalted submission, blah Jerusha is a breath of fresh air, She expresses common christian teachings in her own wellexpressed words, making them highly applicable, Her voice is a joy to listen toarticulate, smooth, professional, yet authentic, I'd like to hear many more from her, Bestselling author Jerusha Clark shares the freedom found in shifting our thoughts from the everyday to the eternal, In order to be set free from the devastating misconceptions that infiltrate our thinking, we must know and live out the truth, This starts with taking our minds captive to what is true, In Every Thought Captive, Jerusha Clark explores the deepest recesses of the feminine mind and examines the sources of our insecurities, unholy desires, and anxieties.
Drawing from other women's and her own experiences, Clark shares insights from God's Word that provide a road map to victory over toxic beliefs, .
