Goed. Het verhaal speelt zich in verschillende perioden af, Het grootste deel gaat over de jaren 'van de vorige eeuw, maar ook de veertiger jaren WOII, deer jaren de Hongaarse opstand en tot slot ook de jaren 'komen aan bod.


Kata is de hoofdpersoon van het boekje, Ze is een Nederlandse met een Hongaarse vader, Hij is vlak voor WOII naar Nederland gekomen om hier te musiceren, Maar ja, hij is Jood en loopt dus gevaar alhier, Hij wordt in bescherming genomen door een Nederlandse vrouw, die daarin wel heel ver gaat, . . Tijdens de Hongaarse opstand weet ook zijn broer Nederland te bereiken, Halverwege de jaren 'studeert Kata in Amsterdam, Zij ontmoet Stefan, die haar vraagt voor hem een wolkenlucht te schilderen boven zijn bed, Ze worden verliefd op elkaar maar dit blijkt een onmogelijke liefde, Aan het eind van het boekje is Kata met Stefan in Budapest om haar vader te begraven en vallen al deze perioden op hun plek,

Althans, dat is de bedoeling, Ik vond het tot dit laatste stukje een goed leesbaar boekje, maar de keuze die Kata en Stefan aan het eind maken vond ik wel ongeloofwaardig.
Jammer eigenlijk, daardoor houd ik toch een wat onaangenaam gevoel over aan deze verder voor mij wel aardige roman,

van plan dit boek vier sterren te geven, maar door het laatste hoofdstuk worden het er toch drie, Een bed in de hemel speelt zich af in Boedapest en vertelt het verhaal van twee studenten die gaandeweg ontdekken dat ze meer verleden gemeen hebben dan ze dachten.
Het begint in de jaren ', maar maakt omzwervingen naar de oorlog en de vooroorlogse periode om te eindigen ergens in de jaren ', Moet het nog gezegd dat de geschiedenis van de Joden in Boedapest een hoofdrol speelt Tessa de Loo slaagt er in om bij momenten wondermooie paragrafen te produceren die het gevoelsleven van het vrouwelijke hoofdpersonage zeer goed weergeven.
Langs de andere kant: het doet soms gekunsteld aan en ondanks de in wezen boeiende en goed gebrachte vertelling, slaagt het boek er niet in mij mee te slepen.

The novel is barely one hundred and twenty pages, yet there is an abundance of storylines, ideas, and poignant descriptions of Germany's occupation of countries during World Warand the brutality they inflicted on the Jews during this period, and the way it affected generations of Jews fifty years after the war ended.


It is an amazing novel, written by an amazingly talented writer, whose insights about the human condition are thought provoking, to say the least.
