enjoyed this book but it felt rushed, So many connections were either assumed or simply lacking, The overall conclusion seemed to have little to do with the opening problem, Also, in this book, like so many of her others, Chaikin conveniently connects all the characters by blood or marriage though the protagonist couple is always conveniently distantly enough related to make a match palatable.
I thought at first that this series would survive the purge but not anymore, I just don't like it enough, Similar plot to Monday's Child with spies and trust issues, A few surprises in the story line make the book more exciting, Tuesday's Child
A very interesting and intriguing story, The amount of research and development must have been extraordinary, This book is about the German invasion of France, The bulk of the story is in Tangire and Casablanca, The characters were well written and it's easy to believe the characters they played, This was a story of undercover and spying, That kept me glued to the book, anxious to see what happens, A well written book that you're sure to enjoy! I didn't like this book as well as the first on, Monday's Child, But I still liked it, there were some parts that were confusing, and I didn't like that sometimes the author jumped all over the place while telling the story, I mean I know it was from different characters points of views, but it got a little hard to follow.
This was a totally separate book from Monday's Child which surprised me, It was more enjoyable than thest in the series, THIS BOOK HAD SO MUCH PROMISE,
It really did, And then Ugh. I don't know I think the writing is just not my style, It's not tight. It's confusing. It leaves me wondering where in the world the book is going and what is happening, When characters got killed it takes place during WWI was left with the feeling of a total stranger dying instead of a character I had gotten to know.
It just needed a lot of help,
The series is such a cool concept, but so far I've not really had any inkling as to why the books are in a series, or as to why I would pick up the third one.
Sad.
All that to say: It wasn't what I was hoping for, but I still did enjoy the story, It was easy to put down, but also held my interest part of
the time, which is, in and of itself, confusing,
And yes, despite all that I am giving itstars, because I wanted to find out what happened and there were some scenes that were wellwritten.
Even now, several weeks and several books after reading it, I can still see it playing through my mind in vivid colors which is good.
I'm giving the bookout ofstars, out of, What an odd book . i say that because Linda Chaikin use to be my most beloved Christian author, The Silk Series was my first to read and I became completely hooked from the very first page, . . my sister would read those books to my mom and I and they were so good as soon as she had finished reading it to us i would pick it and reread it to myself! Then her Buccaneers series.
. . good not quite as good as the other series but good, . . tben came her Lions of the desert series, wow. . once again I could not put down, . so when I found a series of hers I had not read It was like a kid in a candy store!!! Wednesdays child was a big disappointment.
. but Tuesday's child seemed to have promise, But again, I was disappointed, I have literally come to the conclusion that either Mrs, Chaikin has completely lost her ability to write like she use to or it is not Mrs, Chaikin writing these books. The begining of the book happens so quickly almost as if it was a sequel and I'm supposed to know what's going on, the characters romantic involvement happened so quickly I really couldn't care less if they ended up together or not, It was bla to say the least, i kept falling asleep reading it and only kept reading it bc I had paid for it and was slightly interested to see how it would turn out.
. . im mystified how my favorite author can go from spectacular to less then mediocre, Linda Chaikin does it again, a completely different story then all her other books that keeps you guessing, Unlike some authors Chaikin does not get stuck on one character type or story plot, Tuesday's child was an exciting, page turning book that also had a wonderful message of grace and forgiveness, One of my favorite things about this story is that the main guy and girl have a strong faith, It was so refreshing to see strong faith on both sides, Not very enthralling reading, just ok Really had trouble staying with this book, I haven't read book by Linda Lee Chaikin I didn't like yet, This one was as good as the rest, Lovable characters, intense plot and lots of good dialogue, And as usual great writing, "Tuesday's Child is full of grace" The story is set inpre war, Ballerina Valli Chattaine a star in the Paris Ballet Company flees Paris to return home to French Algeria, She reconnects with an old acquaintance, now a captain in the French Foreign Legion, Not quite as good as the first book, but still worth reading, I think, There wasn't as much excitement here, and more romance, perhaps, but overall I liked it,
Valli Chattaine, a ballet dancer, goes to visit her brother, a missionary, and encounters some danger on the way,
With some of the history of WWII German invasion in Paris woven in, and some prayer and lessons of forgiveness, it was an interesting, intelligent story.
I thoroughly enjoyed the first book in this series and I came across this second book in the series at a discount book store, so I jumped at the chance to get it! While I didnt enjoy this one as much as I did the first one, it was still a very good story.
What I Liked: I enjoyed the characters, Valli and her love for her wayward sister was truly inspiring, She forgave and sought to be sweet to her sister when I wouldnt have blamed her for holding a grudge, I just really enjoyed reading from Vallis POV, Marc was also an enjoyable antagonist and I grew to like him even more as the story progressed,
While the beginning of this story was a bit slow, I could see how the author set up the plot perfectly and the excitement truly kicked up several notches eventually.
The author did a great job at making the reader despise the enemy, Dietrich, I was always gritting my teeth figuratively when he was in a scene, His cocky, egotistical manner was truly despicable and you were always rooting against him
The characters were all very well formed and the plotline was interesting.
What a difficult time thes were in France and it made me more sympathetic towards those who were in Europe at the time.
What I Didnt Like: I dont think there was anything that I terribly disliked about this book,
I give this book/for another enjoyable story by Linda Chaikin
In the summer of, with France on the verge of surrender to Germany, Valli Chattaine, a star in the Paris Ballet Company, must escape Paris and return home to French Morocco.
A French Foreign Legionnaire, hired by her family, attempts to get her safely out of Paris, Marc Durell, an adventurous and capable soldier, also brings Valli a secret letter from her older sister, Gisele, But in going home, Valli falls into a maze of dark deceptions and dangers, Through it all she comes to a deeper understanding of God's grace, which is so much greater than her own, His grace helps to bring her and her family beyond devastating circumstances in Casablanca and is equally present in her own romance with the charismatic Legionnaire.
