Attain Just After Midnight Translated By Catherine Ryan Hyde Conveyed As Booklet
a sucker for a good horse story, and Ive read several books by this author some good, some not so good.
This was just OK.stars. It was sweet, but unrealistic, Its really nice that a complete stranger would put her life on hold to help a sad teenager.
But would a grandmother really let heryear old granddaughter spend the summer with a total stranger Good enough that I was able to finish reading it, but nothing notable to make me recommend it to others.
Enjoyable read, once you accept that dressage is actually a thing that consumes people's lives, Another older woman, younger lost teen, both looking for something that seems unlikely to happen, but of course as with all her books, good things come to those who persevere.
I have to say the structure of this novel, starting in the middle, going back to earlier, then coming to just before the story starts, was a bit disconcerting.
But in the end, all is good, through thick and thin, Some likeable and not so likeable characters, but all part of the journey, Midnight is a horse, a dressage horse, who one cannot help but like, although we don't get to really know him.
Nice read anyway, I probably shouldnt have read two CRH novels back to back because in this one I saw more of her “formula” and found a couple of aspects of her writing annoying using “the girl” instead of her name a lot of “silence” in the midst of conversations.
BUTI still got pulled into a good story and relatable characters and emotions and didnt want to put it down.
Hyde has an uncanny gift of pushing all my buttons, Themes in this one include, again, unlikely relationships friendships, trauma/loss, kindness/compassion, and female empowerment, . and horses! Whats not to like, amiright girlfriends I got hooked pretty quickly, as usual with her books, and enjoyed the hell out of it despite unapologetically suspending disbelief in some plot points and getting the perfect tiedinabow ending.
Probably astar book that Im rounding up to: Just after Midnight is a novel by American author, Catherine Ryan Hyde.
The Bolinda audio version is performed by Kate Rudd who speaks clearly, if sometimes a little stiffly, When Faith finds herself at a Dressage show with a volatile fourteenyearold girl in her care, it serves several purposes: Faith has filed for divorce and is avoiding anywhere her husband might be looking for her Sarah is grieving the sudden and recent loss of her mother.
The girls father, from whom her grandmother, Constance, is trying to gain custody from, is unlikely to intuit their current location.
Sarah is grieving, too, the loss of her beloved black mare, Falkners Midnight Sun, sold by her father to John Wintermeier shortly after her mothers death.
Wintermeier intends to sell Midnight, and cautiously welcomes Sarahs presence, as her close bond with the spirited mare makes her the ideal person to show the mare to prospective buyers.
But for Sarah, its a doubleedged sword: her proximity to Midnight ensures the mares best performance, but that may garner a sale, removing her access to the horse she loves more than anything in the world.
At the tail end of a summer of horse shows, Sarah reveals something to Faith about her mothers death, something explosive.
This, just as they learn that Midnight has been sold, And while Faith really has enough problems of her own, she is surprised to realise that she cares enough about this oftenprickly teen to face a certain challenging situation shes been avoiding.
Ryan Hyde is highly skilled at creating characters the reader will care about and be ready to invest in.
There are no stereotypes or cardboard cutouts here: everyone has some depth, even the less likeable ones, Sarah is a troubled teen for good reason, but still manages to make some mature and insightful observations Faith shows more kindness and patience than might be expected of a stranger but all exhibit very human flaws, for all their admirable qualities.
Fans of this authors work will not be disappointed: this is a brilliant read,
A pretty good book, but a bit too long on the descriptions and too much about horses for me to really enjoy.
Felt like a YA book, I think any animal lover would adore this book, or anyone who enjoys reading emotional stories, I'm glad I read this, I am a fan of Catherine Ryan Hyde, having readof her books, They are all different, but usually have a theme of a young person who is helped by someone more mature.
This book carries forward that theme very well,
Set in the horse culture of Southern California, this book focuses on the relationship between a young teenaged girl and her horse.
A child prodigy in dressage, Sarah loses her horse Midnight when the mare is sold by her father.
Although a potential champion, Midnight will not perform for anyone else, Faith, a total stranger, takes Sarah under her wing and leads her through a crisis in her life.
The book deals with loss at several levels: the loss of the childs mother and her horse, the loss of Faith s marriage and her loss of faith in men.
The book is a reminder of how women are mistreated by men in our culture,
I read the book in one day, which is usually an indication that I will like a book.
This is not my favorite book by CRH, but it ranks in the top,
Thanks to Lakewood Publishers and NetGalley for providing a prepublication copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you Netgalley and Lake Union Publishing for the ARC,
They meet on the beach: Faith, in the proces of divorcing her mentally abusive husband, and Sarah, ayear old who accuses her father of the death of her mother.
In the months that follow the woman track Sarah's horse, put on the market by her father to pay off his gambling debts.
The horsewhispering is very soothing in the turmoil of events,
This book reads like a breeze, at the same time dealing with fear, safety and security, caring for others and coming out strong.
Although the end is predictable from the start, Just After Midnight is a painfully beautiful story with a good balance between hope and despair.
Received this in exchange for an honest review, Thank you. I have read two other Catherine Ryan Hyde books and thought this would be as good as the others which both receivedstar reviews on my part.
Let me say that I did not love this book, I found myself skimming over the subtext hoping to get to some meaningful dialog or something to move the story along.
I did find Ms. Hyde has interesting insight on knowing your own worth in that Faith was willing to give up everything to be rid of Robert.
I wish I had someone to point that out to me when I divorced,
The story does have some sweet moments, but I wonder how Faith supports herself and how everything will work
in the end game.
I understand horses are expensive pets and hope money will be recovered, I did feel I learned about dressage, and even looked it up to see a video, Lots to learn, and I did find that interesting,
I will continue to seek out Ms, Ryde, but if I am not enjoying the book, I will just stop, I felt obligated to finish as I agreed to the terms so had to finish Just After,
