Secure Midnight With The Devil (Unlikely Heroes #1) Authored By Emma Castle Manuscript
this was so fucking good, IM CRYING. HOLY SHIT. i didnt expect to even like this but omg, so fucking good for a debut novel,
i think my only grievance is the ending! i just wanted one tiny thing out of it and thats just me tbh! that i didnt get, but regardless it was good.
review soon! cant wait for her next book, Its a mashup of Lucifer with a very mild Fifty Shades is Grey vibe, Oh, for goodness sake, you are so going to want to read this,
A sexy, erotic, romantic, humerous ride of a story, A sweet mix of angelic heaven and devilment hell, with comedic situations and banter, all rolled up into a happy ever after ending,
Diana is willing to risk anything to get her dad better, Hes got no hope of survival, so when the devil offers her his health in exchange for spending a few nights with him, she gladly accepts, The devil, Lucien, has to collect some decent souls to sure up the boundaries of hell, but hes less than enthusiastic about doing it, Something about Diana draws him in and these two end up spending less time in bed than one would expect from a dirty devil,
With lessons about morality with the growth of the characters and plots, with their chemistry, Midnight With the Devil is a book that will snare you and make you devour the pages at the same time wanting for it to not end.
I loved the lessons of the book and how the irredeemable can sometimes have some saving grace, If you are looking for a book that will give you all the feels and is not your typical storyline, grab this one, it is just what youre looking for.
This story captivated me from the very beginning, Its hot and steamy, but at the same time sweet, Who would have fallen in love with a devil, and can a devil love Its nice to read a book like this, with great story line, interesting characters and writing pen that simply make you glide through pages.
This story may be short, but I quickly developed empathy for both Diana and Lucifer, I loved both of them and was rooting for them since the beginning of their story, It was so heartfelt and emotional and the ending so beautiful and powerful enough to make me sob, I wish it didnt have to end, the epilogue was a perfect conclusion, yet it still made my heart ache, Wonderful job, I can honestly say this deserves a perfect five out of five, So I finally got out of my reading slump mostly and picked up Midnight with the Devil by Emma Castle who is a new to me author.
I honestly don't know what to rate this book, I'm beyond confused right now and tbh I feel a little cheated at the abrupt ending with was more like an 'almost HEA' instead of a proper 'Happily Ever After.
'
PlOt:
I fell in love with the devil but he'll never know
Diana's father is dying of cancer so when she meets a mysterious stranger who offers to save her father in exchange for her soul after death and her Friday's for three whole months, she agrees.
Later, she thinks all of it was a dream and doesn't believe that she had actually made a deal with the devil until her father is well now, and a letter arrives at her doorstep.
I love you Diana, Always and Forever
Lucien Star a, k. a Lucifer Morningstar, needs a pure soul to keep the gates of hell intact and strong, He finds Diana, who has a pure soul and offers her a deal he knows she won't refuse, He plans to corrupt her in those three months, but doesn't anticipate falling for the beautiful mortal,
Everything was fine until the firstor should I sayCuz what felt like should've been a fifty percent mark, was actually the end of the book.
I feel so cheated rn because the ending didn't make sense, I mean I got the ending and also where the author was going with it but I still can't help but feel cheated,
The whole "Diana's purpose was to make Lucifer fall for her so that he would return" was ironic really, He fell from heaven because he feared that his fathers love for mortals would overpower his love for him which led to anger and resentment which led to him falling, only to fall once again but this time, to fall in love with said mortal and to die not really, like almost and lose his memories more like reborn
As for the 'I feel cheated' part, the ending was very abrupt.
And their HEA was more like an 'almost HEA' because none of them remembered their past anymore! It just doesn't make sense!
I'll admit that the story started off really well and had me intrigued but after that.
nothing. nada
I still feel that my copy has missing pages cuz this wasn't an ending! Not to mention that the 'entire story' or half of it or whatever was wrapped up inand a half pages which just left me with a lot of questions!
Anyway, I think I'm still thankful for this book has removed me I think from the reading slump I've been in the past few days.
I'm not sure if I really would recommend this book unless your copy has the missing pages in mine, but this book fail wont stop me from further reads by this author!
P.
S: the 'love' declaration quotes They never told each other! and even if they did, the other never knew cuz Diana was dying when Lucien said it and as for Diana, she thought it as Lucien could read her thoughts but he was too busy making a "Diana gets to live, if I come back" deal with God.
. . soooo. .
P. P. S: They end up together but none of them remember each other! Lucifer is reborn as another person, who takes Diana to the hospital when she's like dying and after that in the epilogue, which btw was of a wholeand half page, they are married! Which just led to more questions and this book being a whole big 'meh' for me.
Okay, here we go:
The characters
Diana and Lucien, the devil, Lucifer, whatever the hell his name was lol,
This series is supposed to be one of Unlikely Heroes but the devil felt nothing like that, He does no evil, he's as innocent as an angel Which is very much emphasized in this book, the whole "fallen angel" that is desperate to go back to his grace thing.
No. I thought this was gonna be devious and morally questionable, I wanted something more like The Four Horseman series, were the "hero" is not really a hero up until the end.
Diana was also very shallow and none of them had really much depth if you ask me,
The writing
It felt really simplistic and very bland, Nothing really memorable.
The plot and the pace
Awful, The deal they made is supposed to push the plot forward and it does when it comes to their romance but the reason the devil chose a pure soul like Diana's is to reinforce the gates of hell.
And that plot point is disregarded so quickly and easily that truly, what was the point of it,
SPOILERS AHEAD
And that ending Don't get me started, What the fuck
Diana has an accident and the devil trades his life/immortality to save her but he's reincarnated without his awareness into a human that stumbles upon the place were the accident happened.
This Lucas guy gets out of his car to help the people that are injured and he and Diana have this exchange: “My name is Lucas, Im here to help. Stay with me, beautiful,” he said, She smiled dazedly. “You think Im beautiful”
WHAT, THE. FUCK. I won't comment further, it does so for itself,
this was so unmemorable and kind of disappointing, detailed review to come when I'm done drinking cocktails at the beach This was surprisingly sweet and it made me smile.
It's weirdly a feel good story when I thought I was getting into something dark, It wasn't dark at all, Lucien was really only the devil in bed, Happy reading! Diana gets more than she bargained for when she made a deal with the devil, She falls in love! Lucien, the devil himself, is erotic and surprisingly romantic,
This book was borderline bizarre and silly, but it was definitely interesting and steamy! Its short and sweet and strange, Theres the devil and his reluctant job duties, theres a guardian angel and then theres innocent Diana caught in the middle,
It was a cute concept and an entertaining read in a farfetched way, Very quick read. I MEAAAANNNN The writing wasn't for me, It felt a bit slow but I really liked the concept and it got kind of romantic comedy in the end,.for me though. The ending was kind of unbelievable lol with the deal to get back to her I normally avoid paranormal romance but this book intrigued me with its "fallen angel" theme and I wanted to try it.
And once again, I couldnt find what I was looking for, . . It could be me or it could be the book, I cannot be sure but let me try to explain, . .
The first thing that bothered me was the fact that the book was too similar to the TV series "Lucifer" hence, lack of originality,
The hero has the same name and he also owns a night club, The way
he acts and lives his life all reminded me of this TV series,
The TV series Lucifer was interesting at the beginning but later I got bored and never continued to watch it, The same thing happened with this book, unfortunately but I did finish the book since it was really short!
The writing of the book lacked something maybe it lacked some soul.
It felt so very superficial, It didnt make me feel, I was never able to connect to the characters or feel what they were feeling, I think this is where the book fails the relationship, their feelings etc were not developed, It was suddenly all there and I couldnt feel it, Maybe because the book deals with lots of things such as Lucifer's background story, how he fell, what his life is like now and what his duties are andpages were far from being enough to deal with all of these things plus the love story.
A tough plot like this should not be rushed,
The book is said to be very sexy but I do not think so, Their intimate scenes felt very superficial, too, It lacked passion and chemistry, Lucifer constantly promises wicked pleasure but again it all fails and you only get some light bondage,
The twist was something I expected because there is no other HEA with the devil, you know, but that doesnt mean I liked it,
All in all, this was sadly a disappointing and boring reading experience for me,
You can follow sitelinkmy instagram page from here Diana is in the hospital chapel on the last night of her father's life when the devil offers her a deal.
Sell your soul and I will save your father, It's an intriguing storyline. It's got that forbidden fruit aspect that I have to admit is what drew me in,
I've never read this author before so I took a gamble to see if this could be something for me, I enjoy a dark read, but not too dark, Having Satan as the Hero, the author could take this to the darkest level she wanted to,
I've found that I like Emma Castle's writing and the way she can tell a story, However, I was surprised to find that this book wasn't dark at all, It's actually a very safe read, I did enjoy the way the book turned out and I wasn't expecting that ending,
It's actually a very sweet love story, I think that sweetness took the forbidden aspect that drew me in the first place, out of the equation, I wanted this to be just a tad bit darker and for Lucian to have more of a dark intensity to him and how he was with Diana,
I think expectation can change how you view a book so if you're expecting dark, this is not it, I would like to come back to this book another time and reread it, I think going in knowing how sweet it is, I'll enjoy it more the second time around, ARC provided by NetGalley. I loved this!
Diana is a good girl, But to save her fathers life she makes a deal with the devil, Lucien aka Lucifer, She will be his every friday night formonths, His intention was to make a bad girl out of this good girl,
Lucien was a very intriguing and interesting character,
And I loved the way the book ended, Perfect. Because HELLO Satan is HOT! lol
Hes sexy as sin and hotter than hell andoh wait,
What would you do to save a loved ones life Make a pact with the Devil
In Diana Kingstons defense, it was the middle of the night in the deserted hospital chapel surely it was just a dream.
She hadnt really sold herself to a brooding stranger to save her fathers life, right Then she wakes and her father is fully recovered and a mysterious letter arrives from the tall, dark, handsomeum, Devil Yep, it was right there on the contract, Lucien Star, aka Lucifer Morningstar, that had been his name in the dream Gulp.
What would the Devil himself want with her Sex, Three months of hot, sweaty, Friday night sex,
Ooookay. Breaking a pact with the Devil doesnt seem like a smart move, So shell do itbut she wont like it, Not much anyway. But she starts liking it a lotand every night they spend together, she likes it and Lucien a little more, Being with him allows her naughty side to come out and play, but Diana starts to see more than just a sexyassin, rockhard erAnyway, he might be Satan, but even he was an angel once.
Kind. Noble. And she sees glimpses of that man still inside him But how in Heavens name do you save the Devil from himself
