I first encountered Father de la Costa's readings back when I was eight years old, noticing it was another book on Rizal.
To my surprise, it was an entire book on Philippine history that I was not able to grasp properly until my second year of undergraduate school when the selected passages were required for studying.
These readings helped not only in passing a midterm exam, but helped broaden my knowledge and selflearned scholarship of Philippine history and changed my perception of Spanish colonization by reading primary accounts of the period as cited by de la Costa.
This book helps serve as a guide for future historians and scholars that aim to read along with the primary documents that are now available online.
