Procure Dead Sexy (Garnet Lacey, #2) Developed By Tate Hallaway Distributed As Publication
suppose its meant to be a romance book, because i cant imagine it being a mystery or anything else,
Hallaway draws the people like little stickfigures without faces dancing around aimlessly,
FBI guy Dominguez is like hundred FBI guys before him, supposedly hardass and intriguing, but in the end just boring and unbelievable.
Half the text consist of educating us nonwiccans of the beliefs, symbols, ideas, like your reading a selfhelp for pagans book,
Mixed in are zombies, vatican killers , oh and seems every other guy is a dormant psychic too,
Garnet i find to be annoying, shes not goth but pretends to be, she constantly flip about her relationships, being that shes allowed to be jealous, but Sebastian, the current boyfriend is too possessive when shes going around and being attracted to everything that moves.
Garnet keeps going on and on how sad she is to be a killer, and how devastated she is that she lost her coven because of the vatican murderers, and abouteth time shes again sitting somewhere and moping about it, in remembrance of her old friends, thinking about who wore a pretty colorful scarves and who loved to knit and bohoo now now they are dead, you feel like, hey, that was the last book right, so what happening in this book, is there a story here somewhere
I did enjoy this installation of the Garnet
Lacey series but have a bit of hesitation over her jealousy as I am not one to harbor that emotion towards lovers only friends.
Cute and quick story. interesting ideas on vampires and zombies What can I say about this book Well, . . the action is better than in the first one, but I swear for the life of me I can't believe how much action Garnet gets.
I get the fact that she is the main character but my goodness does every man with more than one line of dialog have to be into her It just seems unreal that every cute guy is confessing his love or extreme like for her.
Also, I can't believe she is so slutty! She seems to not mind cheating on Sebastian nor thinking inappropriate thoughts about every attractive man she meets.
It makes her seem really disloyal to the man that saves her duringof her precarious situations and almost makes her an unlikable character.
Also in this second book, Garnet's friendship with Izzy seems really strained, for some unknown reason, It makes Izzy seem like she's tripping big time, Last but not least, Izzy's cousin, Maureen aka Mo, her character doesn't really make sense to me, It doesn't seem well thought out, . . just reeks of randomness, laziness, and a lack of creativity, So needless to say I don't understand quite a few things in this second installment, but it was still entertaining enough, I do not dislike this series, But I don't adore it, Still, it has its fun moments, its sexy interludes, and many interesting ideas at its foundation,
This time around Garnet must deal with the FBI breathing down her neck, while following a querulous crow around town and coping with Sebastian's jealousy of Parrish.
It's never a dull moment for this Wiccan,
There are laughs to be had and bittersweet moments to treasure, but Hallaway's characters still don't feel fully realized to me.
Something about the men in Garnet's life strikes me as derived from a template, While both are attractive, Parrish is a bit more real than Sebastian, even though the latter is her present boyfriend,
The FBI agent provides some interesting interactions and prompts Garnet to come to terms with the death of her coven, The zombie plot and the crow messenger, while intriguing, seem secondary to everything else going on and the resolution is anticlimactic,
I'm unsure how I feel about the Goddess Lillith residing in Garnet, Most often, her only involvement is in making Garnet's tummy rumble, Her powers are underused to the point that she really serves no purpose outside of providing brief bursts of strength,
Overall, this book is a very chicklit brand of UF, and yet Garnet is not a chicklit kind of girl, That dichotomy, paired with the lack of truly thrilling moments, keeps me from loving the series, But it's not a bad way to laze away a rainy afternoon, Not nearly as intriguing as the first book, The MC spent too much time waking up and wondering what happened, Also, I found it personally difficult how much time she spent being 'in love' with her boyfriend while also lusting after and dabbling with her ex and another character.
Unless she was polyamorous, it seemed inappropriate, And her boyfriend's longsuffering attitude was also unrealistic,
But, I find this world intriguing and I love a lot of the characters, I'll definitely read bookand then decide if it's worth continuing, sitelinkCheck out my other listens at Eargasms Audiobook s
The second book in the series is really interesting but there is a lot going on, almost too much.
With the FBI, zombies and relationship issues, Garnet really had to stay on her toes,
I thought the FBI story would have been enough for this book, the zombies were a side thought, The resolution for their story seemed quick and a bit of a throwaway,
The relationship with Sebastian has it's ups and downs, I kind of prefer her ex Parish, I feel more of a real connection there, Alas, that is not to be,
I listened to the audiobook narrated by the always fabulous Amanda Ronconi, She has a wonderful was of infusing excitement and movement into every books she reads,
Can't wait to jump into the next book of the series, I really like all the supporting characters and am curious to see where we are headed, I have mixed feelings about this one, I wanted to love it, Don't get me wrong, I liked it and will likely read the next book, though my enthusiasm for the series has deflated considerably.
Metaphorically reading this series has been like working up toward that "little death" and then NOTHING,
Without giving away anything of the story in thisnd book of the series, let me just say, there are definitely several subplots that were under developed or just entirely tossed aside so I'm stumped at why it was even brought up to begin with.
For example, what's up with the wedding ring/almost vow exchange between Garnet and Parish What about the Voodoo Witch Was she creating a zombie army for the money And what's up with the precurse attraction between Garnet and the FBI agent Hmmmmm
Reading bookcalled for me to just ignore stuff and go with the flow.
You just got to accept that this is the GarnetSebastian show and everything else is just white noise that we're suppose to ignore and not delve too deeply into.
So this book ticked nearly every box on my fluffy paranormal romp indulgence list: hot gentlemanly vampires, magic, occult shop, hipster coffeehouse, sassy pet cat, and a main character who takes the paranormal zaniness in her life in stride.
I thought Garnet was a pretty solid and fun protagonist, As a practicing Witch who shares her body with a powerful Goddess, she is no stranger to all things magical, and has a sense of humor about it all that I enjoyed.
At the same time, she's got pretty modest goals she's just a gal trying to run her shop, sort out her relationships, make sure her cat gets fed, and avoid going to jail for something she sort of didn't do.
Compared to similar books with similar heroines, I liked that Garnet:
Doesn't navelgaze, I get annoyed when the protagonist spends too much time complaining about or insisting on their mundaneness, especially when everything that happens to them is to the contrary.
Some might wonder why so many washboardabbed men are attracted to her, but hey, if she doesn't question it, then neither will I.
Makes decisions. They're not always good ones, but for the most part, she is the driver of the story and her own life, She knows what she is and isn't capable of, so when her friends or lovers come to the rescue, it feels right instead of convenient.
Things that could have been improved:
Neither of the "crises" the FBI agent and the zombies ever feel truly urgent or like a real threat.
Too much narrative/interior monologue between lines of dialogue, There were a few times when I had to go back to remember what the last line in the conversation was,
Better use of Sebastian, He goes from calling Garnet on her s to supporting her unconditionally while she works out the situation with her ex, I like that he did both of these things, but I would really like to know what he was thinking through that change of heart.
Looking forward to reading the next book in this series, I liked this a lot, Garnet Lacey is funny Sebastian is sexy Gabriel is kinda cool for an FBI guy and Parrish is loyal, All around a good cast of characters for a sexy cozy mystery involving witches, vampires and zombies, Dead Sexy was an interesting read, but I say that with an air of uncertainty, The adventures of Garnet Lacey were entertaining, I would even say they were insane in a cute way, But, it wasn't the character build or events that kept me hooked, I'm not one to check publication dates so I was oblivious to the fact that this story comes from the earlys, The time of flip phones and spiky hair styles, The time when hot vampires had longer hair and only roamed at night, The time when witches were popular and powerful, The details in the story capture the vibe of what was the earlys in a manner that grabs you by the hand and shares its familiarity.
I couldn't help but to appreciate this book, While I was not a fan for the rushed experiences and random oddities that popped up, the ease of envisioning being a part of the time appealed to me.
It's what kept me reading to the end, Like the series, but after two books I'm still not that convinced of a Garnet/Sebastian relationship, I just keep feeling that we are being told that these two are in love and not really shown they are, It seems this whole book they keep getting in arguments or not talking or taking a break, Where as Garnet has amazing chemistry and more romance with the cop and her ex,
I'm not so sure I'm a big fan of the Izzy friendship anymore either, She said some pretty hurtful things to Garnet and compared her murder of the priest to be the same as murdering a bunch of college kids to turn them into Zombie slaves.
Its hard to explain without giving too much away but basically that one scene in the book completely turned me off Izzy, She's not a friend. Afterall she seemed to have almost no problem with her own friends and coworkers being made into zombies but condemmed Garnet for Lilith.
Overall the book is okay but at the moment I find that the only characters I actually like are Parish and William.
I do like Garnet but sometimes I feel as if she is a huge idiot, Not good. This is the second book in the Garnet Lacey series amp continues the story from a few months after the last book ended.
Now that Garnet amp Sebastian have managed to avoid the Vatican witch hunters life should be back to normal but that all changes when an FBI agent turns up at the store to question Garnet.
He wants to question her about the murders ofVatican witch hunters the year before, Garnet panics and realising that she is the prime suspect she tries to hide her identity, The fact that the FBI agent is psychic doesn't help so she takes matters into her own hands by creating a love spell that she hopes will get him to listen to her side of the story.
She is still dating Sebastian but her jealousy issues are causing problems just like they did with her ex Parrish she doesn't want him to feed from her but hates the fact that he has to feed from others to survive.
It doesn't help that she is keeping secrets from him he has no idea that Lilith killed theVatican witch hunters or that Parrish is currently hiding out in her basement.
Throw in the fact that Garnet is coming across zombies at every turn and things are bound to get interesting,
I really loved the first book in this series but while I still enjoyed Dead Sexy I don't think it quite lived up to my expectations.
This story wasn't as fast paced as the previous one and I don't feel that there was as much comedy this time, If you liked the first book then you'll probably still enjoy this one it was still a cut above some other books I've read but I'm hoping that the third book will be even better.
