The author certainly knows his local animals, although I wondered why he didn't include skunks, raccoons, wolverines, fishers, muskrats, and porcupines, which are also common.
As you read the text, you can feel the tension in the air as the animals know what is coming and prepare.
The first snow is always joyous, as both animals and people play in it and admire its beauty, Perhaps the author ought to write another one about the boredom and weariness afterormonths of the white stuff, about the desperate longing for spring! I would certainly like to see more books by this author/illustrator team.

lives in mountainous regions will appreciate this book, Highly recommended! The narrative paints a warm and bucolic picture of life in the Adirondacks, creating something akin to nostalgia in its prosaic delivery.
The author's mastery of words is on display in every sentence, his phrasing as precise as a needlepoint, framing lively scenes in the reader's mind scenes that are only aided by the beautiful and fitting artwork by the gifted Maggie Henry.
In these pages, "Hillsides and villages look to be on fire as trees shimmer in the glow of autumn light, " And "The rocky summits of Armstrong, Saddleback, and Gothics rake at the belly of the cloud, releasing whirling flurries, " Lyrical, mesmerizing prose likes this is not often found in children's books, but what a treat to find it here,
