Enjoy For Free Skary Childrin And The Carousel Of Sorrow Depicted By Katy Towell In EReader Version
Overall : Meet the Scary Children or Skary Childrin, as spelled by Beatrice: Adelaide is shunned because everyone believes she is a werewolf! Yes, her ears are pointed, her fingernails look more like claws, she can see and smell more than anyone elsebut that doesnt mean shes a bad person, right Maggie is amazingly strong and beats up those who try to pick on otherswhich means she is shunned as well.
Shes also usually very grumpy and sarcastic, but shes a loyal friend, Beatrice can see and talk to ghosts mostly animals, though, so everyone thinks she is creepy and weird, but she is the sweetest, most innocent and positive person you could meet! And I loved her sweet little ghost mouseturnedpostman! Then theres my personal favorite: Steffen.
Hes a pretty normal kid, actually, Hes poor and hes homeschooled since his dad cant afford to send him to school, but he is happy and cute and willing to help others, And, oh, how I loved all his inventions especially his invisibility hats, which dont actually work and his fetish with peanut butter sandwiches!
The curse of Widowsbury is taking a turn for the worse and people are disappearing.
The town is already wary of anything new and now they are even more scared and suspicious, The four children stumble onto something they were definitely not meant to see and as they try desperately to warn people, the only reaction they get is more trouble!! Could the big old carousel really be as evil as they think it is And what is it, exactly What started out as a mystery surrounding their missing librarian, turns into a fight to save the entire town from something worse than they ever could have imagined!
Skary Childrin is what happens when you take elements from A Series of Unfortunate Events, XMen, Poltergeist, and Something Wicked This Way Comes, mix it all together, and put it in the microwave! Fast paced and very scaryif you want to be scared silly, then this is the book for you! Make sure you keep a flashlight handy! Overall rating isout ofstars!
Content :
PROFANITY: One moderate instance
VIOLENCE: Many mild and a few moderate instances throughout
SEXUAL CONTENT: None
MATURE THEMES: Moderate
RECOMMENDED AGE GROUP:
There is one instance of an omg.
Not the acronym.
There is a lot of mild violence, such as bullying and mean people, They do things like calling names, taunting, humiliatingdoing anything possible to make the others feel horrible, The headmistress dislikes some of the students and constantly punishes them with cruel punishments: The Wall sitting against a rough brick wall for an entire day while everyone looks on, The Wailing Room characters are put inside a small room for a very extended period of time without any lights, or food, and with the door shut and locked with chains and padlocksrumor has it there is a wailing ghost inside and it may or may not let you live, or The Library a very gloomy, damp room with horrible people as librarians who hit them, make fun of them, and generally make their lives miserable.
There are a few different instances of ghost attacks: One instance is when the main characters are trying to get a bully to leave them alone, and they have some ghosts attack her in order to scare her into leaving them alone.
It mostly works, as she is very shaken, Another instance is when a ghost chases after a character in order to deliver a message, but while shes trying to deliver the message that the town will be eaten, she transforms into something very scary this happens twice.
There is an evil shadow man who is behind the disappearances and hates everyone, He tries to trick people into following him and tries to get into some characters windows late at night during a lightning storm, A strange shapeshifting creature feeds off of sadness, but becomes mutated and ends up becoming a personeating monster, A character gives out candy made from poisoned blood, When characters enter the carousel they are attacked by mutated and scary creatures giant scorpions, tarantulas, bears, hornets, batdogs, etc, A character finds another character covered in slime and mostly unconscious who screams in terror over and over again, When the evil creature is defeated, it vomits people all over and then it meltsthe skin melting right off the body lots of description, There are some scary pictures,
The mature themes are fairly moderate and deal with curses, the reality of monsters and evil, supernatural occurrences, misery and deathits pretty scary, Some mild themes are that of fitting in/being different, friendship, and being loyal and helping others,
Skary Childrin and the Carousel of Sorrow is recommended for ages,

A Squeaky Clean Reads Book er
This book was sent to Squeaky Clean Reads by Knopf Books for Young Readers for a review
To see more fantastic books reviewed with content in mind, visit us at sitelinkSqueaky Clean Reads!! sitelink booklikes. com/post This book reminded me somewhat of "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children" but I liked this book much more,
The scary children are Adelaide, Maggie, and Beatrice, They have been isolated from the rest of their peers, at the Madame Gertrude's School for girls, by the headmistress Mrs, Merryweather. She blames the three girls for just about anything that goes wrong so that they are in a constant state of punishment,
When the twelfth librarian, to work with the girls, reaches the school she is a breath of fresh air and kindness, Her name is Miss Delia, She likes the girls but mysteriously disappears on the very next day after her arrival at the school, The girls begin an investigation of her disappearance while simultaneously befriending a town boy named Steffen,
It turns out there have been several unexplained disappearances recently, Coincidentally, a carousel has landed in Widowsbury and that is just a complete anomaly in this town where everything runs the same way all the time,
I liked how we found out that each of the three girls had special abilities but those were not highlighted, In fact, it seemed like the skills might even be imagined,
Even though the girls are excluded that does not mean they are friends with each other from the get go, either, I really liked that. I enjoyed watching their friendship grow and the culmination of the three working as a team to achieve some remarkable rescuing was very cool,
The concept of what was happening in the town and why evil needed to be satiated actually was very deep, The way it was described by the "keeper of the carousel" was so sad and far reaching, It made you think deeply about bullying and the scars of that and also how some people do cope unsatisfactorily with bullying through revenge, It was at this point in the book that I flipped it over to make sure it was young adult because I felt you would need some higher ordered thinking and emotions to grapple with the content.
This I think was another plus, As the reader you are taking in the information but wow, what a carefully crafted climax and lesson, I never updated this to Goodreads but I read this book in aboutand honestly it was just so interestingly creepy, I've really wanted to reread it since and I totally recommend this book to anyone, all ages because I 've never read a book like this, This book had a lot going for it, but there were just so many missing pieces that I had a hard time connecting with the world and characters, Bummer, but I'm glad I finished it, I LOVE KATY TOWELL'S WEBSITE AND I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE WHAT SHE HAS COME UP WITH FOR HER BOOK, SHE IS VERY TALENTED AND BEFORE WE ALL KNOW IT SHE WILL BE GETTING MOVIE OFFERS FOR HER SKETCHES, GOOD LUCK AND CAN'T WAIT FOR MORE NEW STUFF ON AT sitelinkWWW, SKARY. NET. This was good. It took me a long time to slog through, despite it being middle grade, The story was interesting enough, and the illustrations were great a couple were super creepy, which was awesome, I just felt like I had to force myself to read it because I still hadn't finished it, But it did go much quicker through the second half, once I sat myself down and dedicated real time to it,
One gripe I have is that the only boy the girls interact with ends up being the most active character in that he bails them out of things, he is the one with the plans, and has the things they need in his backpack.
. . it just felt like it drove home the idea that girls can't solve problems and save the town without the help of boys/males, I understand that it is set in the late's or early's, but still, I think girls are/were actually more resourceful than that, even then, Good book. Enjoyable.
Contains good lessons not only for kids, me included,
Love the friendship!
Overall, it was great, It's not bad and boring,
