good reads giveaway very interesting life robin lives This robin hood retelling has a lot of potential however it still needs some work in my opinion.
I really loved the female empowerment, and the representation of the LGBTQ community, but the characters felt poorly developed with a lot more "telling" the reader than "showing".
With limited character development I struggled for the first part of the book to keep the characters straight in my mind and felt no connection to them as the plot progressed.
Again this is a story that has a lot of potential and could eventually be a really great story for YA audiences but needs some work to make the plot feel less predictable and hap hazard and give the characters the justice they deserve in terms of back story and development.

There are enough incompetent or downright evil adult authority figures in Jacobsons novel to attract any young reader questioning his or her life.
Which, of course, means all young readers, In balance with the adults comes nuanced and colorful teenage characters on the run, literally and metaphorically, And thus Nottingham, a retreat for girls in trouble or in questioning, founded by Robin and her misfits, The misfits themselves are marvelously depicted: White Rabbit, a young computer geek and renegade Little John, Robins right hand gal Skillet, a slightly older Southern woman though hardly a belle, unless it might be Belle Star and Daisy Chain, Robins sometimes love.
Daisy Chain plays a huge role in the novel, moving from mystery and comic relief she is always quoting Shakespeare and always apropos to the situation to revenge, and finally to maturity.
Her name derives from first time Robin saw her sitting and plaiting daisies into a chain, “Are you here alone,” she asks the sitting girl, “Parting is such sweet sorrow,” Daisy Chain replies, Her constant quotes nearly drive the misfits crazy, though, as Robin points out, when you consider behind each quote, it always carries relevant meaning.
Beyond the characterization, Jacobsons novel offers chase scenes, heists, hitchhiking, motorcycles, plotting, revenge, . . and romance. In short, it offers plenty of movement to attract young readers and plenty of character development to make them think,

Robin and Her Misfits by Kelly Ann Jacobson is a beautiful queer retelling of Robin Hood and his Merry Men.

Found family is a huge trope of this story, and I found it to be compelling and heartwarming throughout the book.

Told in four parts Robin's, White Rabbit's through emails, Little John's and Daisy Chain's, it tells a story about a group of queer ladies who 'be gay, do crime.
'

There are a lot of twists and turns, badassery and a big sense of love,

I loved this book, and can't wait to see it in print,

Robin agree to give back to queer girls in need of help in this stunning modern reimagining of the Robin Hood legend.

Robin and her four MisfitsLittle John, White Rabbit, Daisy Chain, and Skillethave run away from their families in order to live off the grid on their own terms.
For a while, theyre hidden, safe, and happy as they commit petty crimes that provide enough to get by, All that matters is keeping their small clan alive, Then, one mission proposed by an unfriendly associate from their past reminds them of their former lives and motivates the group to a new purpose.
The five Misfits develop into a league of strong individuals united by a fresh goal: do whatever it takes to help queer girls rise above oppressive laws and attitudes.

Kelly Ann Jacobson, the author of the awardwinning LGBTQ young adult novel Tink and Wendy, is back with another diverse twist on a popular legend.
Loved the characters. The prose was great with more of a literary feel to it, The concept was wonderful but the plot felt a little clunky, Kind of a fever dream retelling of Robin Hood This book was an experience, I loved the premise of it and especially enjoyed how we got to read all of the Misfits' POVs, The storytelling elements in each section also seemed to reflect the personality of their Misfit, enhancing the details provided and giving us a closer look into their personalities.
However, I would have liked a section in Skillet's POV, especially one detailing her thoughts about what happened to her, It's a fast read and the story weaves together beautifully leading you to end up with all sorts of emotions, Although at times certain details were confusing/rushed, a few blurry facts didn't detract from what was going on too much, It was also less actionpacked than I first believed it would be, but that didn't end up being a bad thing, If you want a beautiful, sentimental read with a bit of adventure sprinkled in, then this is for you, Kelly Ann Jacobson does it once again! Another beautiful tapestry, masterfully woven from threads that are the stories of Robin and Her Misfits.
They are a band of brilliant young women, who youll want to befriend even as they intimidate you,

Her most engaging and exciting work to date, Robin and her Misfits is not to be missed!! Dr, Kelly Ann Jacobsons retelling of classic Robin Hood story is a fun and actionpacked novel, With strong characters and point of view, the novel digs in to what it means to forge your own way in the world, to find your own family, and to figure out how to get home once youve left.
A queer retelling of Robin Hood full of heists, heart, and Florida humidity,

I adore classic retellings, especially if they're genderbent, full of found family, and set in a familiar setting,

"Steal from the rich
give to ourselves!"
is Robin and her Merry Misfits chant as they leave their secret hideout affectionately called Nottingham deep in the north Florida wilderness for fastspeed highway robbery.
Each girl has her own secrets and past, and some don't stay buried for long,

I'd have to say Daisy Chain is my favorite character, One because I enjoyed how she spoke in Shakespearean quotes and only Robin could translate, but also because of how many layers she contained that we weren't even privy to until we arrived at the chapters in her pointofview.

Jacobson did an amazing job capturing all the nuances of each main characters' personalities as well as the found family that made Robin Hood and his Merry Men such a beloved classic.
