Catch Hold Of Akhenaten By Dorothy Porter Readily Available As Leaflet

Premetto che le raccolte poetiche non sono il mio pane quotidiano e che quindi la mia sarà una recensione che interessa puramente laspetto narrativo, piuttosto che quello strutturale.


Personalmente ho apprezzato tanto come la penna della Porter sia riuscita a restituire la biografia di uno dei faraoni più iconici della storia egiziana dosando ogni singola parola.
Nulla è eccessivo in questa raccolta, ma ogni poesia, ogni verso persino ogni parola è carica di sensazioni e di potere evocativo,

Sicuramente la ricostruzione storica cede il passo al verosimile ma va bene così,

Lo consiglio a chiunque apprezzi lantica storia egiziana e a chi apprezza le storie narrate tramite raccolta poetica, per scoprire la vita di un dio, di un faraone, di un uomo.
This was Dorothy's first verse novel, and she maintained it was her best, I agree wholeheartedly. Qualche giorno fa, in occasione dell'uscita, vi ho presentato Akhenaton di Dorothy Porter Fandango Editore, Ecco, oggi voglio parlarvene in maniera più approfondita,

In breve, Akhenaton era un faraone egizio della diciottesima dinastina, Regnò peranni e morì probabilmente nela, C. Figura indubbiamente eccentrica, è ricordato per aver introdotto in una cultura prettamente politeista il culto di una sola divinità: Aton, il Dio sole,

Akhenaton, probabilmente androgino, aveva il "vizio" di consumare rapporti con i consanguinei, nello specifico con le figlie e con il fratello, Faraone sicuramente dalla dubbia moralità,

Dorothy Porter è di lui che parla in questo romanzo, e lo fa in versi,

Questa è la prima volta che mi approccio ad un romanzo in versi, e devo dire che non è stato semplice, Soprattutto all'inizio. La musicalità delle parole, mi distraeva dalla storia in sé, Poi, però, sono

entrata nell'ottica della narrazione ed ha iniziato ad acquistare fluidità,

Akhenaton è un romanzo che ho letto in poco tempo prende in esame l'intera vita del faraone: dall'infanzia alla morte, Le varie tappe sono ben chiare e definite,

Le tematiche trattate sono toste, ed in parte disturbanti, Leggere di un padre che ha rapporti con la figlia, non è un'immagine facile da interiorizzare, Queste parti, purtroppo, non mi hanno fatto apprezzare in pieno il romanzo,

Tutto sommato, comunque, ho trovato Akhenaton di Dorothy Porter una lettura originale e ben sviluppata, Akhenaten is a fascinating, shadowy figure in Egyptian history archaeologists have discovered attempts to eradicate all traces of his brief reign, but enough remains to tell a remarkable story of incest, heresy, androgyny and a massive cult of personality.
Like Camus' celebrated Caligula, Porter's Akhenaten is an attractive, warped megalomaniac who attempted to construct a heretical religion around one Sun God, with himself at the centre.
Akhenaten is a novel in verse that captures the obssessional, erotic nature of its central figure, It is a towering achievement, This is possibly the weirdest book I have ever read,

A telling of the life of Akhenaten in verse by Australian poet Dorothy Porter,

Her arrangement of Ahkenaten's Hymn to the Aten is beautiful, But in her other poems I found the use of somewhat, and very obscene language, lessened my enjoyment of the poems, Prima che decidiate di leggere questo libro, vi invito per chi non  conoscesse la sua storia di andare  a cercare un pò di informazioni su questo singolare Faraone.

Sono sicura che vi incuriosirà talmente tanto che sarete interessati a leggere questo libro,

Akhenaton è noto soprattutto per aver portato alla chiusura dei templi proclamandosi sacerdote e profeta del nuovo unico dio Aton, imponendo una dottrina monoteista al posto dei tanto venerati dei.


Dorothy Porter ci propone una sorta di biografia in versi, usa poesie per raccontare sue riforme radicali, le sue scelte eretiche, l'amore passionale  per sua cugina e moglie  Nefertiti.


Per me è stata la prima esperienza con un romanzo in versi, e ne sono stata affascinata, un pò meno però dai contenuti,

In questo libro la poesia non è interpretata come la immaginavo,
Poesia per me è romanticismo, Amore vero che parte dal cuore, Non sicuramente incesto.

Esatto !
Per me è veramente difficile parlare di questa lettura, non è facile parlare di questo argomento,

Però devo ammettere, che a prescindere dai contenuti che sono discutibili, questo libro è un documento di grande valore culturale,
E sono stata molto felice di averlo letto,

Ho cercato di immaginarmi il periodo storico,  e mi viene in automatico pensare che ci fosse una certa disciplina, un certo pudore, un certo rigore.
 
Per Akhenaton sicuramente non è così, la libertà di espressione in questi versi, ha fatto crollare tutte le mie convinzioni,

Non ci sono freni o limiti di parola per Akenathon, siamo ai limiti del volgare,
E questa è la cosa che mi è parsa più "strana",

Mi rendo conto di essere molto combattuta ci sono molti sì per questo romanzo ma c'è un NO che pesa tanto, troppo e che schiaccia tutte le mie certezze.

Per me Akhenaton è il NO !!!
Non può essere un padre una persona come lui, non può essere un Faraone, una guida, un Dio !!!
Ci sono delle regole, ci sono delle morali e dei valori a quali non si può soprassedere.

L'incesto ovviamente lo disapprovo fortemente,

È un libro che sconsiglio a pubblico giovane per le argomentazioni trattate,
Ma è un libro che consiglio ad adulti che vogliono conoscere questa persona ambigua e a mio avviso disdicevole,
Ma Akhenaton è una figura emblematica, rivoluzionaria, megalomane,
È rappresentata tutta le sua natura ossessiva ed erotica,

Il risultato è un romanzo potente, irriverente, imponente, sensuale, scabroso,
Le sue rime travolgono e ne risulta una lettura molto coinvolgente,
Ho amato la crudezza viscerale e la sensualità della sua poesia,

Un romanzo strano e particolare ma molto affascinante,
Per tutti questi motivi alla fine ho preso una decisione,
Il valore culturale alla fine ha vinto su tutto e quindi per me è un gran sì,
Davvero una bella scoperta

Benché io adori l'antica storia egizia e abbia letto molti romanzi e saggi dedicati a questo Faraone, ognuno con la sua visione caratteristica, non ho apprezzato questo libro.

Già la forma poetica mi ha reso più difficile il tutto, dato che è un genere che leggo e capisco poco, la traduzione poi incide molto più che nella prosa, ma anche nelle mie limitate capacità di giudicare dei versi posso dire che non ho apprezzato la visione dell'autrice, probabilmente influenzata dalle sue prospettive personali, né la semplice lettura dei componimenti.

Although I adore ancient Egyptian history and have read many novels and essays dedicated to this Pharaoh, each with its own distinctive vision, I did not appreciate this book.

Already the poetic form made everything more difficult for me, since it is a genre that I read and understand little, the translation then affects much more than in prose, but even in my limited ability to judge verses I can say that I did not appreciate the vision of the author, probably influenced by her personal perspectives, nor the simple reading of the poems.
Probably my favourite book. Beautiful, emotional, lovely. Dorothy Porters writing is always fascinating and compelling, But this just wasnt as gripping as her other pieces, Something felt missing, and I think it was just the connection to the speaker, it just, . . felt like something was missing Difficult with such a figure and a time and theres a lot of context needed for it, It came through in some moments but not others, Part of the reason I found this lacklustre personally was definitely the content, which isnt my cup of tea incest is always, . . difficult to read but i can definitely find even the most offputting subjects compelling if written right, and there was just something missing here, for me.

Gli Egizi mi hanno sempre ammaliata, . . fin dalla scuola elementare, era l'unica lezione di storia che ascoltavo affascinata, Stregata da quel mondo.
Sono stata anche a il  Cairo, a vedere le tre piramidi principali di Giza: Cheope, Chefren e Micerino non ricordo mai nulla e a volte mi stupisco di quel che trovo nei cassetti della mia memoria e la sfinge ovviamente.

Luxor sarebbe stato tra i viaggi che avrei fatto in seguito, ma poi non ci sono più tornata per la cronaca ero a Sharm come tutti i turisti mediocri e ho fatto tappa nei posti che non puoi non visitare se sei in Egitto.

Quando mi hanno chiesto se mi andava di leggere questo libro quindi ho accettato subito,
Non sapevo cosa aspettarmi, mi avevano solo preannunciato che sarebbe stato scritto in versi,

Il faraone Akhenanton è famoso per essere riuscito a farsi "cancellare" quasi completamente dalla storia,
Accusato di eresia per aver imposto il culto monoteista,
In questi versi malsani, torbidi ritroviamo un uomo blasfemo e perverso, incestuoso, folle e cinico,

La Porter ne fa un ritratto affascinante ed oscuro simultaneamente,
È riuscita a farmi immergere completamente nella lettura ed a farmi immaginare i luoghi, le persone, gli odori del posto,
Una lettura gradevole, ma al tempo stesso che ti lascia l'amaro in bocca,

La luna piena
è un cielo vacuo
fremo
di splendore
poi una palla di sangue sorge
sulle rocce acquattate
Aton si specchia
nella luna
e la manda in frantumi.
La vita, ma soprattutto il periodo da faraone, che duròanni, più dianni fa ed il suo rapporto con sua moglie, Nefertiti, le sue figlie e parenti.

Qui rielaborata, dall'autrice, in forma di poema contemporaneo,
La lettura parte a singhiozzo, non riuscivo a star dietro ai versi che scorrevano uno dietro l'altro, poi verso la metà, il quadro generale si fa più nitido, anche se arranco per una rielaborazione un po' troppo nebulosa e confusionaria, della storia.

Apprezzata la critica femminista, in un periodo estremamente maschilista, anche solo il fatto che Akhenaton faccia di tutto e dico tutto, per poter avere un figlio maschio e quindi un erede, dopo tante figlie, ne è l'esempio più lampante.

Nel complesso, però, ho trovato la lettura davvero singhiozzante e per certi versi poco o per nulla coinvolgente,
Evitabile! I am a dance

sigh divine I liked the verse novel format, Porter was a master of the long form poem,
Many aspects of the story were interesting, I had some issues with the handling of the incestuous relationship between the pharaoh and his female relatives, I believe this was commonplace in Ancient Egypt, but, . . Read this for a creative writing class at university, I like poetry but it really depends on the style and what the author is trying to convey as to whether I will enjoy it.
Considering my rating it is easy to guess that I did not like the author's style or what she conveyed, Granted Akhenaten was likely a megalomaniac, I mean he started a singular deity religion in Ancient Egypt of all places, And yes many royal families throughout history, including AE, had incest and twisted family lines, But holy shit the way in which Porter wrote it all was disturbing, I can only imagine the faces I was making throughout the poems, which were crude and disturbed, It wasn't just merely the sex with his daughters vomit that was detailed, it was also the scenes between Akhenaten and Nefertiti, Porter's choice of vulgar language on top of an already disturbed focal character of Akhenaten was simply over the top and turned me off entirely.
And on top of all this I did not find the poetry itself to be anything but mediocre the majority of the time, A very character driven novel, with Porter's typical forays into sensualityand there's plenty of that with this pharaoh, the one who briefly brought monotheism to the land of Egypt.
Porter does an amazing job of including completely selfcontained poems to forward her novel's plotlinein this particular novel it's more of a timeline following Akhenaten's life, but still maintaining a pull, especially in the latter half of the novel.
Akhenaten may be as well known for his wife and first cousin! Nefertiti, See, spell check didn't underline her name, I highly recommend at least one Porter novel in verse, just to give yourself a change, I am troubled that her works are mostly out of print, Maybe I could crowdsource and publish at least her verse novels, if only I could write half as well! such a captivating writer! I first read Porter for a university subject and I loved the visceral rawness and the sensuality of her poetry in The Monkey's Mask.
Since then I've been collecting her five verse novels, I am a sucker for both Ancient Egypt and free verse poetry so this was a wonderful book to read,

Porter uses a number of poems to tell of Akhenaten's obsessive love for Aten, his heretical decisions to oust the rest of the Egyptian pantheon, his love of Nefertiti and for his children.
By the end of the novel his obsession has soured everything he touches and everything he has loved leading to incest, androgyny and failure as the Hittites advance.


Porter claimed that Akenaten got under her skin and refused to let her go, By the last poem, some of that emotion gets to you

the workmen of the new king
have arrived with chisels
and hammers
they have orders
to cut down my city
and cut out my name

but Rameses can't cut down the Sun
or cut out all the birds
in the dawn sky
who call and call

my name
and teach it to their
gaping nestlings

Akhenaten.
Akhenaten.

Their wings ripple about my ears
in raucous rainbows,

Akhenaten. Akhenaten.

Their eyes are pestering white prisms,

Why does eternal life
make us so ravenous

Like all of Porter's verse novels, Akhenaten gets better and better with rereads.
What a dreadful loss to the literary world that Porter died so young, .
