on I Do ... Every Day: Words of Wisdom for Newlyweds and Not So Newlyweds

Do Every Day: Words of Wisdom for Newlyweds and Not So Newlyweds is a short, easy to read devotional that would be good for couples just starting their marriage and even for older couples looking to strengthen their bond.
The introduction asks the sobering question, "How many hours this week did you work on your marriage"

There areshort chapters, and I chose to read a chapter a day during my devotional time.
I think this would be a more fruitful approach than reading the book covertocover in one sitting, The chapters alternate between Cynthia's and Roger's perspectives and each includes a short scripture, a quote, a story or two from the author's lives, insights the author's learned, a "Honey Do List" with suggestions for the readers, and a short prayer.

Overall, I enjoyed the book, and I think it is a worthwhile read however, I thought it skimmed over most topics, I found the book light on scriptural references and there were a few times when I wasn't really sure why the authors chose a specific passage to tie into the chapter.
I rated the book three because I felt it offered some good points, but lacked depth for the reader to really understand and pursue them in a meaningful way.
Learned a lot including things that will help my current relationship even though I'm only dating, Although I didn't find all of the entries in this devotional particularly useful or relevant, the majority of them spoke something of wealth to either me or my fiance.
As I read this on my Kindle, I highlighted several passages to share with Simon at a later date, since he's isn't much of a reader, There were only a couple of entries where I couldn't find anything to highlight, which is definitely the sign of a good marriage book there are some books where I've gone for pages without reading anything new and insightful! I originally started taking notes on each entry, as you can see from the remainder of this review, but I gave up after a few days and just kept highlighting useful passages.
Even if some of the information in this book wasn't entirely new to me, it still made me think and reminded me of the important things in a marriage.
I'd definitely recommend this book to couples whether newly engaged or married for several years if you want to refresh your mind to the important aspects of marriage and gain some handy hints and tips.

: I really liked the first entry about working on your marriage as much as you do on your day job, Although it's something I've always believed in, the phrase "working on your marriage" really struck a chord with me, However, the second chapter was all about entertaining friends and welcoming people into your home, which I didn't find particularly inspiring, While I'm sure issues over how often you have guests to visit will affect your marriage

in some way, I felt that there were a lot of other issues that would be more important to examine.
Will see how the rest of the book goes,

: Third entry was quite good, reminding couples that the need to remember to compliment their spouse, This is something that I know I probably don't do enough, so I appreciated that prompt, It also commented on how appreciation can be shown through physical acts, like doing chores or shoulder massages, which is a good point, I'm definitely the kind of person who shows love through acts,

: Today's entry was excellent, and explained the importance of supporting your spouse in everything they do and helping each other to achieve your dreams, I'm always so astounded when Simon tells me he's proud of my dream to write romance novels, So many people I know think that this is a waste of my English degree, that writing a romance novel isn't an achievement, and it had got to the stage where it seemed like a bit of an embarrassing dream to admit to.
Until I started dating Simon and I told him about what I wanted to do with my writing and he told me that he supported me and thought I could do it.
I don't think we would be where we are today if we didn't appreciate each other's ambitions and help each other along the way, The entry also talks about the stages, later down the line, where sometimes it feels like life has sucked everything out of your relationship and you need to rejuvenate it.
This isn't something we need to think about yet, but I think it's important to remember that when you get to that stage, you just need to reignite your marriage, not give up on it.

: With all the fuss of packing up, moving out of uni, then unpacking everything at my parents' house for the summer I've forgotten to keep up with this devotional.
Today's section wasn't particularly new to me, but had some good points anyway, Basically, we should be entirely truthful about our pasts with our spouse, otherwise if something is accidentally uncovered without you realising, your spouse might interpret the discovery entirely wrongly.
The bottom line, is be truthful at all times, no matter how much it hurts, and don't keep anything hidden, After all, you should feel comfortable to share anything with your spouse without fear of judgement, This is something Simon and I discovered early on while we were dating, and we talk about so much that there really isn't anything left to be discovered! So while I thought this section was important, I was reading it wondering how couples could get to the stage of being married and not have figured out all of this themselves.
It just felt a little bit like the authors were stating the obvious or treating the readers like we couldn't figure out basic relationship skills ourselves, A great little book to remind you about the little things that will help you have a happier marriage, no matter how happy your marriage already is.
