you wanna hear some cool tales that take place in New York, this is a good book to read!
I did have a few issues with the writing though.
While discussing one myth or legend, sometimes the author would completely go off the track with a whole other subject that wasn't needed or had really nothing to do with the story being told.
Ex: John Lennon's whole career and lead up to his death in the "Famous Ghosts of the Dakota" story, While John Lennon does supposedly haunt the place, the whole entire story of his death and career was not needed to contribute to the story or him haunting the place.
Just maybe his death happening there would have been fine This happened in a couple stories,
Also the author couldn't seem to decide if she wanted to call indigenous people "Indians" or "Native Americans.
" This was inconsistent throughout the book when talking from her point of view and not quoting someone, I feel like this should be respected a little bit more,
Otherwise, I learned a great deal about myths I had heard of and some I never heard of before! The author did her research and tells a good rundown And that's really it, a rundown.
More details would have been nice on some stories, And less detail of the run off stories mentioned above of these myths and legends, I grabbed a copy at BJs, being
from NY and interested in such historical spookery, The stories selected were fine choices to cover, although some were well covered alreadylike Typhoid Mary, It would have been nice to have a bit more depth of detail, Interesting surface level stories. Not bad. Just okay. Are there alligators under New York City Did the military take the lessons learned in the socalled "Philadelphia Experiment" ofand apply the same technology at Montaukto develop a weapon that would literally drive the enemy insane Just who was the homeless man who walked amile route every thirtyfour days, dressed in heavy leather From the Lake Champlain monster to the friendly ghost hostess of Skene Manor, New York Myths and Legends makes history fun and pulls back the curtain on some of the Empire State's most fascinating stories.
