fourth and possibly the best yet in Hazel Hutchins engaging series, TJ and the Quiz Kids once again brings together TJ, his two cats and his excitable friend Seymour.
TJ is baffled when the viceprincipal asks him to be the fourth member of the schools Quiz Kids team after all, he considers himself to be “incredibly average” and feels Seymour, an insatiable collector of oddball facts, would be a more knowledgeable player.
So both boys are added to the team with the proviso that one will be chosen as the player and one as the sub shortly before the competition with the highpowered Fairview team.
As TJ says, “The thing that really drives me crazy about life is how things snowball, ” Between keeping track of his two cats

and their propensity for getting into odd places, helping his travelloving grandmother pack for Belize, assisting his dad in his new construction business, facing tensions in his friendship with Seymour and coping with a certain amount of stage fright, TJ barely has time to memorize the names of all the oceans.
And he feels he wont be able to contribute much to the team, Hutchins presents the reader with many threads in the story but neatly weaves them all together in a very satisfying read, An additional treat for readers is the wonderful range of weird facts courtesy of Seymour and a bibliography at the end for those who want to pursue more
oddball knowledge.

I've read Hutchins before and her style is conversational, engaging plus you can learn a lot,
Written for young readers, the plot involves a select team at Riverside P, S. prepping for the annual televised quiz between them and Fairview, TJ finds himself on the team along with his best friend Seymour, But TJ has a confidence thing going on and doesn't think he's worthy, He discovers he is, 'That's when I really began to understand, There are a lot of different things to know in the world and a lot of different ways of knowing them, Academically, I probably wouldn't be able to touch Elizabeth and her teammates or the kids on my own team, but maybebetween Seymour's wild facts and some of the other things I knewI could help out our school after all.
