been waiting for this Dark Dreams's release for a very long time and I have to saytotally worth it!
I love when authors take on the task of infusing new life and new breath into a plot or
trope we've all read or think we've read before.
This book shatters those boundaries and uses the broken pieces to build a completely new, sturdy and frankly breathtaking backdrop.
Female protagonists are challenging creatures to portray in the context that one doesn't want them too strong or too weak.
We need to see both a stubborn will and small measures of vulnerability that only make their strength more enviable.
Jade Shear is a perfect example to this rule, Intelligent, sassy and pithy, she can hold her own and yet displays charming moments of uncertainty and doubt.
In many ways, she parallels the attitude of one of my fave fictional characters, Buffy Summers Buffy the Vampire Slayer, combining the essence of innocence and old soul.
Beautifully depicted, Jade's struggle with her feelings regarding her gift/curse lends the story a beefier and more personal edge as she reluctantly embraces her destiny.
Nias. I don't even know how to accurately describe this delish Djinn, Bossy, arrogant, unwavering and sexy as hell, Sign me up! Fierce and predatory, his own internal struggle regarding any feelings he has for Jade adds yet another lovely element to this tale.
He needs herand he hates that, He wants herthis also bothers him to a certain degree, I love when big, strong, complicated rogues find their matches, it's always entertaining to see it unfold,
One of the highlights of this read for me is the fact that the Djinn, typically represented in unfavorable light as being cruel monsters are actually the 'good' guys in a unique way.
They are humankind's protectors and this vivid portrayal underscores all the 'gray' areas between good and evil,
Well written, fast dialogue and completely fluid, I thoroughly enjoyed Ms, Treadway's and Mr. Speca's maiden voyage together and look forward to many, many more stories they share, I highly recommend this book!

This is a paranormal romance novel featuring an empathic human female, a musclebound hunk of a Djinn and various other species of daemons with three “allknowing” goddesses thrown in to the mix.

So, what did I like about it
I really liked the premise of this book an ordinary ish girl thrown into an extraordinary adventure, who finds romance and the value of her own gumption along the way.
I quickly fell in love with our main character Jade she was intelligent, with a heart breaking fragility caused by her gifts curse effect on her relationship with others around her but she had courageousness I greatly admired going into situations to help others despite her own fears.
I used Wikipedia when the story introduced a new species and appreciated the fact that all the creatures of Sheol can be found in actual mythology I think that added a further dimension to the worldbuilding and gave it an edge of reality that I liked.
I found myself gripped at times, unable to read fast enough, completely engrossed in this tale, enjoying both the evolving relationship between Jade and Nias, the pace, twists and turns of the adventure they were on and the development of the background story arc.
So, ummm, was there anything I disliked about it
Ms Treadway has mentioned online that she had read both sitelinkDante Alighieris “Divine Comedy” and sitelinkJohn Miltons “Paradise Lost” and loosely based her levels of Sheol on their ideas.
I havent read either of these classics and the faith that I live by does not feature a “hell when your soul goes to be eternally punished for a perceived sin” so at times I found this aspect of the story confusing and a little frustrating.
However, after a while I decided to view this aspect as I would any other fantasy created world and just accept it as a part of the worldbuilding of this particular story and go with the flow!

I like this book youve got two strong main characters but both have soft, warm hearts, a passionate blossoming romance with both teasing sexual tension as well as graphic sexy scenes this is not a YA tale and a battle between good and evil.
What more do you want from a paranormal romance! Im looking forward to seeing where the authors take the story next.
As I understand it, Ms Treadway and Mr Speca are busy writing the next book in the Progeny of Sin series to be published by HarperImpulseRomance sometime in the future.
I really enjoyed this book and I am anxiously awaiting the next installment! It is not a genre I usually read, so I included it in my book Mara Prose Virtual Book Club based on the recommendation of a new friend.
We had mixed reviews in the group but I highly recommend this book if you like paranormal, Not to mention the chemistry between the main characters is off the charts! I loved their romance! sitelink

The blurb for this story interested me but sadly after several attempts I am onlyfinished and I don't' want to read anymore.
The characters are too superficial, for my liking, they lack depth and realistic grounding, I appreciate this is a paranormal fantasy but the world building isn't believable,
I am not rating this book as I did not read all of it,
