A Wonderful Blast Off From the Past!
Pete the Cat is such a charming, little guy who seems to come straight from the past in the most delightful and fun way! The narrative style and simplistic art evoke a sense of nostalgia for the books I grew up with: handmedowns originally published in thes ands.

This story is quick and fun, following Pete and his other feline pals as they train for, go on, and return from a space mission.
There are moments of conflict, such as needing to get back to a rocket in time to go home, but they are over quickly enough to be appropriate for young kids.

As always, Pete the Cat is his usual endearing self with a mind for mischief in this caper, The illustrations are ingenious with childlike but perfectly detailed rainbow sketches with dark pencil outlines of spacecraft, astronauts, and outer space, This picturebook is unlike some of Deans other books in this series in that it is more storydriven with a proseinfluenced structure as opposed to the poetic, singable quality that is usually common in the Pete the Cat books.
This book is also great about introducing children to space and the astronaut program, albeit with an unrealistic depiction of a space camp experience.
Pete the Cat: Out of This World would be a great addition to a read aloud storytime program foryearolds about space since it utilizes a character children are already familiar with and pays homage to other books in the Pete the Cat series.
Many of the words in this book are wellbeyond most sight words that children can read at this age with multiple terms and compound words, so this book works better as a read aloud rather than as an early reader.
Having read other stories to my granddaughter and both of us enjoy Pete the cat, . . I did not enjoy this book as much not much as some of the others really enjoyed Pete the cat “ I love my white shoes” now that i do recommend Read for myyear olds bedtime.
