Secure I Never Danced With An Eggplant (On A Streetcar Before): Chronicles Of Life And Adventures In New Orleans Fabricated By Errol Laborde Displayed In Manuscript
excellent selection of articles on all aspects of NOLA written by local journalist Erroll LaBorde, Very enjoyable, in some cases from a recent
historical perspective, in others still useful information since the book was published almostyears ago of even older articles a good bit of the reviews are no longerup to date.
Covers everything from Mardi Gras to local polictics to fig trees and the proper way to carve pumpkins and knock eggs.
EDITThis is my first reread since I moved permanently to New Orleans in, The book still holds up, but it's interesting now to have more firsthand experience with some of the subjects.
Since I only started to visit the city in, all of the articles were written well before my timeand it's interesting to see what has changed e.
g. Katrina, the "Aints" winning the Superbowl, Dixie beer coming back, Comus stopping their parades and what has stayed the same much local politics, even if many of the names have changed, Hansens snoballs, SPD in the Irish Channel, the general parade experience, etc.
These witty essays reveal why locals find it so hard to leaveand why visitors always come back.
