but
I read these novels because the plots are interesting and the descriptions of Sweden and the other Scandinavian countries is also good.
But I really dont like the main character, The author insists shes beautiful but she doesnt seem it, So dull, no interest in anything reading, art, music, movies, tv, sports no passion except police work, Okay, but shes not that good at it, I always figure things out way before she does, Ill keep reading and see if she develops, The sixth book in the Anita Sundstrom series sees our detective pitted against two old adversaries: Inspector Alice Zetterberg and businesswoman Kristina Ekman.
A series of kidnappings and the murder of a prominent journalist occupy the thoughts of the team: are they linked or are they two separate crimes And what part does Brazilian coffee have to play Appealing characters and a relaxed style make this an entertaining read.
All the usual characters are back for thisth book in this series, Swedish DI Anita Sundstrom is still in her, on again, off again relationship with Kevin as she tries to solve the kidnappings of weathy business owners.
Added to this, she finds herself reporting to her
nemesis, Alice Zetterman, To throw in one more complication, there is the murder of a well known journalist, The pair of crimes a kidnapping of a rich businessman and the murder of an investigative journalist were quite compelling and kept me guessing.
The continuing appearance of Zetterberg is just getting tiring, Feeling like a soap opera sometimes, Otherwise a pretty good read Another enjoyable read with Anita Sundstrom investigating two crimes, a series of kidnappings of wealthy business heads and a murder of a columnist for a newspaper.
Her boss has a heart attack and so she is acting until her arch enemy Alice comes in to take over.
A simple plot but easy to read, Anita is struggling in her relationship with Kevin who remains suspended from his post in England, There are problems at the Polishus when Chief Inspector Moberg falls ill, Then there are the kidnaps and a murder, Anita struggles to find the answerers,
A good competent novel in this selfpublished series all set in Malmo, An agreeable easy read will continue onto the next instalment, I have read all six in this series, I like the characters and plot twists, Also the information on the finnish children was interesting, Strange to realize that some Swedish have such negative feelings about Finns, Guess everywhere there are unwarranted prejudices against anyone different, I don't know if I like Torquil MacLeod that much anymore because I am so enamored with Anita Sundström I can't seem to think of another author whom I like.
He really makes you think when each and every crime is committed you use Anita to run all the ideas by, but they may not be right on.
She's handicapped by Zetterberg coming and making everything difficult, Hakim was quite distant because he had to overcome Liv's injuries from Anita's prior case, And Brodd's saving Anita by squealing on what Anita was up to, It happens to make all the other books seem to make sense, I want another book to read right now is how I feel Torquil MacLeod,.stars. Interesting although the author has left us hanging on the noncrime details at the end, Multiple crimes are woven into one story
As Anita and Moberg interview the victim of a kidnapping a body is discovered in an apartment in Malmö.
Before they can get on with the two investigations Moberg has a massive heart attack and Anita is given temporary charge of the team.
With chaos in the department following another kidnapping, and difficulty finding out the real name of the murdered man who has multiple passports, Alice Zetterberg makes her move and is made Acting Chief Inspector.
Her, unfounded, animosity to Anita rears its head as she makes it clear that she's out to have Anita dismissed from the force.
Zetterberg sets Brodd up as a spy to try and keep tabs on Anita and meanwhile upsets the team by belittling them and dismissing any theories they come up with preferring instead to focus on her own pet theory.
. which is completely wrong as usual,
Anita won't be stopped from her own investigation and, having finally made peace with Hakim, ropes in Liv to do some research and encourages Klara to think for herself and speak up, they will resolve the cases despite Alice Zetterberg.
All the Malmos are good but I still cant get over that this is a guy writing Anita Sundstrom, Bravo Torquil! Not since Wally Lambs Shes come undone have I keep rereading the author bio, This is Book.stars
Anita Sundström of the Skane County Police is feeling more than a little stressed out as the novel starts out.
Her English boyfriend, Kevin, has been staying at her apartment for two months now and he is getting underfoot, Not that Anita's not partly glad he is there, But she has gotten used to living alone, Also, her boss is on her case and Hakim, her formerly best officer has gone cold on her,
A man is kidnapped, but is returned relatively unharmed after paying a huge ransom, He is a very wealthy businessman, When it happens again, the police are flummoxed and more than a little harried trying to sort out who is doing the kidnappings.
When Anita's boss, Moberg, has a heart attack, she is put in charge of the team, Just then, a murder occurs, The man is discovered to have several fake identities, One of the team members knows who the victim is, however, He turns out to be s sleazy reporter for a semisleazy tabloid, He made many enemies with his muckraking journalism tactics, The list of suspects is long and famous,
And in steps Alice Zetterberg, Anita's longstanding nemesis, Things really are going from bad to worse,
Through dogged determination and sheer hard police work, the team cracks the cases, A surprise suspect in the murder case who is tied to a very old case of murder,
This book is well written and plotted in Torquil MacLeod's usual style, I must admit that I didn't enjoy this book in the series as much as the previous books, It was very slow to get going and it seemed like there was a lot of dithering going on, I will continue to read the adventures of Anita Sundström, however, for they are really good books, This is a pretty good book, I read about/of it and might return to it one day, The murder victim's only relative and only person he confided in was his mother, At/into it, the detective decides to speak to the mother, This is Sweden where she would have done that just to be POLITE, but would surely do that to gain information.
An excellent book until the end
To Torquil MacLeod writes well about Sweden especially Malmo, He has a good sense of place, characters and p!ot, I have enjoyed all of his books so far, but the ending of this book is most disappointing, I do. not condemn the whole book it is well planned and holds one's attention, but the consummation is utterly implausible, A great pity, I fear, A new Anita Sundström case is always a welcome purchase and a joy to read, Anitas team are all back and even a few old enemies return to make life difficult for Anita as she juggles multiple kidnappings and murder within the cutthroat business of corporate Sweden and uncovers the truth about the legacies of Finnish evacuees during WWII.
Superbly plotted and well researched as always with multiple crimes the list of suspects is long as Anita skilfully narrows it down to find her culprit.
A brilliant series with still no weak books within its run, Recommended. When a leading Malmö entrepreneur turns up bound and gagged in a citycentre cemetery, the Skåne County Police have no obvious clues as to who is behind the kidnap.
More complications arise when a second leading business figure is snatched and Inspector Anita Sundström and her colleagues are under pressure not only to find the victim, but also catch the gang.
The team is then further stretched with the murder of a malicious investigative journalist who has ruined the lives of many prominent Swedes.
Unlike the kidnap case, there is no shortage of suspects, Both investigations are far from straightforward, and Anitas professional life is about to become more turbulent with her nemesis, Alice Zetterberg, waiting in the wings.
Warring companies fallen celebrities and an adversary from a past case reappears on the scene as Anita Sundström tries to find the truth in the sixth fulllength Malmö Mystery.
Always great
A Swedish police procedural without the darker side of Scandinavian mysteries, Anita is a middleaged police inspector with brains and instincts, but must deal with difficult relationships at work, Her personal life is complicated but includes a caring son, his wife and Anitas granddaughter, Also, an interested English policeman met on holiday, The whole series is fastpaced, intricate and well researched, Sweden, and Malmo area, forms a strong background, Bookof the series and an improvement over Book, I think, It's obvious that these are books written to a formula nit necessarily a bad thing, but you know that things won't fully be sorted out until the last few pages.
Good to see further development of other characters in this book and again, a decent storyline, I enjoy Torquil MacLeod. His writing is confident and his characters appealing, His flaws are wordy descriptions of buildings and locations in the style of a travel brochure, lacking a novelist's flair for conveying a vibrant picture with minimal words.
When in the middle of the book he cuts from scene to scene as the tension builds he is at his best.
The beginning is rather tangled and wordy, The plot is clever, but nearly becomes too clever, In the end it is dramatic and gripping, This is not his best, but it is good and like all his fans I look forward to the next, MALICE IN MALMO is the sixth Inspector Anita Sundstrom mystery by Torquil MacLeod,

Mr. MacLeod is a writer living in Cumbria and became acquainted with the Malmo area when a family member moved there, The sense of place, the Swedish locales are very interesting and wellwritten,
The characters are realistic and likeable,
There are interesting notes on Finnish wartime refugees in Sweden during WW II, Evidently, over,Finnish children were evacuated in the face of Soviet attacks, The books prologue opens with one of these childrens experiences,
