read the other books in this series a while back, This one was a nice story, we have a hero grappling with guilt over the death of a fellow officer who happened to be the heroine's husband and her father's son.
The heroine approaches the hero in despair, her eightyear old son has become withdrawn after her husband died, I liked how there were no miracles the moment the hero entered their lives, grief takes its own time, The hero/heroine feel a pull but the heroine doesn't want to let go of her husband and his memories, I liked how the book showed that everyone has their own time and pace of letting things go and moving on, I felt the heroine's fears were portrayed nicely and I enjoyed this, "Will you help me help my son"

The beseeching words were spoken by the most enchanting woman police chief Carlo Garibaldi had ever encountered.
But Samantha Underwood was offlimits, the widow of an officer he'd lost during his watch, Now she stood before him, enlisting his help to make her boy smile again,

Carlo's gut told him to refuse, but in his heart, his very soul, he wanted to be a hero to mother and son.
He couldn't resist trying to coax quiet Jeffrey to talk again, laugh again, be a little boy, And he couldn't resist falling for the one woman he didn't have the right
