A book in which the stories of past and present going together and both are equally interesting, One of the best novels from R, K. Narayan to read. a must read Amazing writing and a thrilling story, Couldn't believe it was written ins, Narayan is purely a legend, I doubt if any Indian novelist of current generation could match his standards I loved "The Guide" more than Malgudi Days and Swami and his friends,
The characters do not have any pseudo coating and are very much a rawhuman with all of their shades convincing us in every scene,
What a delightful book! The protaganist has a very real person with shades of black and white, Raju evolves as life takes different turns for him, There is also a sweet second meaning to the title of 'The Guide", Once when he played the role of Railway Raju and played the tourist guide's role, And another when he became swamiji and guided the village and the town,
An inspiring book at many levels, RK Narayan's attention to details on everything around him is stupendous, The way he shapes out his characters, and imbues them with the right amounts of pluck and vulnerability is outstanding, His immense knowledge about the Indian ethos and the arts shows through every single page,
This is a classic, Anyone interested in literature and is a serious student of the English language must read this, I am not sure why or what prompt me purchase this book but I'm glad I did, It was sitting idly for about a year before I felt like giving it try, All I can say is, The Guide will place you in Raju's shoes and bring you on a roller coaster ride, There is good amount of humour in this book some Im not sure people of nonindian origin will understand, Nevertheless this was a goodread : It was my birthday exactly two weeks ago, I spent it in a hospital and hated every bit of it, Also, I had spend my previous in a hospital and the one prior to that, I have come to hate birthdays, But this year I made a resolution to lessen the bitterness of the past three years, have some fun if not an adventure, Rather I was left humbled, This book reminded me of who I was as a child, What mg aspirations and dreams really were, It made reflect what I have become instead, This is the stuff that my childhood was made up of, simplicity being its major ingredient, This book should be read by everyone at any age, I know that Marilyn Monroe did!
